Hi folks!

My sis is getting married on March 9 and I'm thinking about surprising her by singing a song during the evening feast.
As you might know, I'm not the best singer on this forum. And I've never really performed live in front of more than 2 people, who were jamming along. Let alone for an audience of 90+ men and women.

So, I'm thinking which song I could do and I thought: let's ask my forum friends  :)
Any suggestions?
Please don't say things like Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey, because I really can't sing that :p And I should be able to perform it on guitar.

Cheers!

Shower the people by James Taylor - or You got a Friend

It pains me to suggest this next one, but it's a wedding classic already: beautiful by James Blunt :/

Let us know which song you go with :)

hi stephanie

might not be your/there cup of tea but makes me glaze over everytime and im apparently made of stone

‘grow old with me’
&feature=related
beautiful version by glen cambell
theres no irony,  its absolutely in your face.
some might say its got birthday card lyrics or over romantic but i think its a fantasticly moving song, straight to the heart and cambell sings it really well. The chords should be fairly straight forward, dont think theres any tricks in there as such. Be lovely just voice and acoustic
Guess its a case of whether you want to be funny or romantic, ironic or warm  ?
Nice thing to do though, nice gift to the happy couple..
Good luck
i may not believe this tomorrow...

Hi Stephanie,

we have been thereseveral times (we have many siblings), even so many times that started writing songs ourselves specifically for their weddings  ;D
here is one, just four chords, and the chords do not change in the verses and choruses

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuIEV4N3Tbo

Mrs. Dutchbeat played it and sung it in church live, so just piano and one voice, but it is not very 'light' (for a reason) but yes, it did work!!!!

but when playing at the party...mhh.. what always works, i know this one is very old-fashioned, but easy to play on guitar also....

The rose

here you find a Bette Midler life version (sorry about that) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D1OuVAUYf4

but you will see everybody wil be singing along on a wedding occassion, simple and effective

good luck!

Nooms - listen to this actually sung at a wedding,  considered doing this at my sisters

Also do you realise that this is a John Lennon Song!

Dutchbeat - right here right now is one of my favourite of yours

Steph - all the best regardless of what you do

Thank you for all you suggestions  :)
I'm making a list, been browsing the web a bit as well. Gonna try each song out and then see what works best. Might give my parents a vote in it as well.

This is what I've got this far:
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
Enrique Iglesias - Hero (ta Kafla)
James Blunt - You're Beautiful (ta tone)
KT Tunstall - Universe & U (one of my favs, but pretty hard to sing...)
Coldplay - Yellow
Bob Dylan - To Make You Feel My Love
Eric Clapton - You Look Wonderful Tonight (haven't got a clue how easy/hard that one is to play though...)
The Calling - Wherever You Will Go
Aerosmith - I Don't Want To Miss A Thing
Jack Johnson - Better Together
John Lennon - Grow Old With Me (ta nooms)
Bette Midler - The Rose (ta Dutchbeat)

That's the list for now. Any remarks/thoughts about it?

Ramshackles, I know it should be one of her/their fav songs. But they're not that big a music freaks like I am. They kinda suck in whatever is on the radio  :p

And Dutchbeat: great song! I don't feel comfortable enough to play an original song myself. It'll be my first public performance anyway, so that'll be stressful enough, I think  ;)

Btw, Kafla: cracking rendition of the song indeed!

Greetings

hi stepahnie,

Excellent choice..for sure for a wedding

we have done this (Adele version) at a wedding last summer

it is a bit long in her version, i could not help noting... :P, but it goes down very well with a wedding party audience,

and if you want and it could be helpful i can send you the instrumental track in mp3 format
