Sorry for posting before the fortnight's up - hope it's OK with the contest on  ;D
This is my solo short song. I'm not a religious guy but this came into my brain.
Hope it's not too lame  ;D ;D

Keys to the Kingdom

Out of luck, all out of hope
I was stranded on the road

But I was given the keys to the kingdom
I was given the keys to the kingdom
I was given the keys to the kingdom
When you had given your love to me

All my troubles, all my fears
Seemed to vanish in thin air

When I was given the keys to the kingdom
I was given the keys to the kingdom
I was given the keys to the kingdom
When you gave your sweet your love to me

This is the nearest we have got to Elvis on my time in the forum. Never mind Keys to the Kingdom here are the keys to the KING. Nice work. Paulski

Awesome stuff, with a load packed in there. Feels like you put in more development than can go into 1min, but it never sounds forced.
Love the gospel vibe and the backing vocals.

Is there a special bonus award for sneaking a modulation in there!?

Very good. You don’t seemed rushed, despite the one minute limit. Well sung and played. Love the BVs too. Well produced. Enjoyed every, er, minute  ;)

I suppose it's kinda cheating, not writing anything for myself, but I totally agree with everything said so far. I love the piano, really enjoyed the modulation slipped in at the last second, great harmonies. Excellent piece.

Hi Paul,

Lovely gospel feel and your usual genius at arrangement and piano playing. Rather too much repetition of the title for such a short track but a classy piece of work nonetheless. Towering vocal performance.

Good gospel styling working really well....as opposed to Monty I think the repeated title hook is pretty typical of that sort of thing and fits nicely. Top performance as usual and uses up its minute without seeming rushed or too short....of course it could go on longer with more and more repeats of that line until we reach complete religious ecstasy….but this'll do nicely!
Take it easy.

It is not my favorite style but you have achieved a balanced and harmonically well-constructed gospel. See you!!

Yo Paul.

I've seen the light,brother Paul and I believe!  8)

A very shiny gospel choon. I was raised on such stuff and although the faith didn't stick with me,the love of the music and it's repeating melody lines, did.

Preach it brother Paul.  :)

Thanks for listening and commenting guys & gals  ;D

@Neil C - cheers Neil - glad to hear the gospel vibe comes through OK.

@mickyplankton - hehe thx Micky - Elvis eh? Guilty as charged I guess - he was a gospelly guy.

@tboswell - thanks Tom - yeah extra bonus points for modulations - guess we forgot to mention that in the rules.

@Bill Saunders - thank you kind sir. Glad it didn't seem rushed (though I was tempted when it went over the minute mark  ;D)

@CaliaMoko - cheers Vicky - means a lot coming from someone who knows the genre well  ;D

@montydog - thanks Alan - you are too kind. Have to agree about the repetition - but hey wanted to milk that hook and not much time to do it in.

@Viscount Cramer & His Orchestra - thanks Ian - yeah almost saw the light by the time I had recorded this, but alas I wasn't saved like the guy on the piano.  :D

@pompeyjazz cheers John - glad you liked the vocals  :D

@moraamarolaloba - thanks for that! Yeah no genre is safe from my musings.

@Skub - cheers brother Davey and bless your heart for your kind words.  :D I have another song called "That kind of music don't belong to you" where I try to wrench gospel music from the holier than though crowd's hands but that's a story for another day  ;D

Hard to believe that you're not a religious man, after listening to this Paul ;) You almost converted me :o   :D
I quite like the gospel vibe and I can interpret the 'keys' and the 'Kingdom' into my own spiritual beliefs, so very cool inspiration  8)
Beautifully arranged and performed  :) Great entry!
