One I wrote a few years back, I've come across whilst sorting out my songs. The title is based upon the poem The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe. The song, however, has nothing to do with the poem or it's meaning. It just borrows from the line Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore." (the "singer" is stating he won't do something again).

QUOTH THE RAVEN

VERSE
I search for some forgiveness in your eyes
A chance to make amends for all my lies
But all I see is hatred there and pain
I guess I've burned my bridges once again

BRIDGE
It's a fact of life I self-destruct
Just as my world is coming good
It's suicide-by-love or so it seems

VERSE
I wander out alone into the night
The winter rain is cutting me like knives
I barely see the world that's passing by
I only see the tears that you now cry

BRIDGE
And I ask myself how can I stop
From hurting everyone I love?
How do you break the cycle of self-hate?

CHORUS
Though I've tried so hard before
To let go of such dark thoughts
t's too hard to change the person that you are
I am poison to the core
With the slamming of the door
Ends another fairy tale just like before
Quoth the raven, “Nevermore!”

VERSE
Another bench, another empty park
Another moonless night that gets so dark
I sit here all alone and start to cry
Another piece of soul that I let die

BRIDGE
Is it really true that you can't change
That leopard spots must stay the same
In which case what's the use of going on?

CHORUS
Though I've tried so hard before
To let go of such dark thoughts
It's too hard to change the person that you are
I am poison to the core
With the slamming of the door
Ends another fairy tale just like before
Quoth the raven, “Nevermore!”

EXTRA
I must believe that I can alter who I am
That I have the will to stare my demons down
I can't conceive a life that's always moving on
Now the time has come to stand up for the count

INSTRUMENTAL

BRIDGE
I ask myself how can I stop
From hurting everyone I love?
How do you break the cycle of self-hate?

CHORUS
Though I've tried so hard before
To let go of such dark thoughts
It's too hard to change the person that you are
I am poison to the core
With the slamming of the door
Ends another fairy tale just like before

CHORUS
Though I've tried so hard before
To let go of such dark thoughts
It's too hard to change the person that you are
I am poison to the core
With the slamming of the door
Ends another fairy tale just like before
Quoth the raven, “Nevermore!”

Last line in the chorus is the star here and you're smart to borrow it from Poe.
Seems I'm on a mission to rename songs today, but to me, "Nevermore!" would be a better title (and easier to say  ;D
I particularly enjoyed these lines:
It's suicide-by-love or so it seems
Another piece of soul that I let die
I have the will to stare my demons down

Only nits I have are:
- it takes too long to get to the title/hook.
- written in 1st person makes it a tad self-indulgent which might keep listeners from connecting emotionally.

But WTF do I know? You'd likely be better off ignoring me.  ;D
