I've been a little busy lately on my project to catalogue and (occasionally) re-write my vast array of songs so I've not really written anything new for a few weeks. Last night whilst trying to relax (had a very stressful problem with a job at work that I only finally resolved late last night - until then it was looking like I was up THAT creek with a paddle!) I felt like writing something.

Anyway, this was the second of the two I wrote last night. It was around 1-2am so I was a little bit tired and worried I was being too slap-dash with the way it panned out. I'm still tired this morning so my brain is still out on that one.

There are a couple of things I'd like to ask about it...

1) In the second bridge I wrote THERE WAS ONLY YOUR EYES which sounded natural in my head when I sung it but the annoying grammar Nazi that is MS Word kept insisting it ought to be THERE WERE ONLY YOUR EYES. Yes, I know "eyes" are plural so technically "were" is the correct form, but I was using "was" because I was actually talking about the situation - THERE WAS ONLY THIS HAPPENING.

I've sung both versions in my head and now I really don't know which sounds better. 99% of me wants to stick with WAS and screw the GNs, but 1% of me hears it and says it sounds wrong.

2) The last two choruses: I did think about doing this last night but at the time I just wanted to finish the song off - do you think I should have the second chorus with different words? I can't help this nagging feeling that it needs something just to finish the "story" off. What do you think?

THE ONE

VERSE
I got caught in the moment
I was blind to my fate
There was not a word spoken
But you still laid a claim
And a heart that was broken
Was made whole once again
For the wounds that were open
Were closed to the pain

BRIDGE
It was all I could do
To remember to breathe
You’re a dream that’s come true
You have made me believe

CHORUS
In the power of love
That can banish your pain
With one magical touch
You can live once again
Oh the power of love
Casts your loneliness out
And when me becomes us
There are no second doubts
You’re the one…

VERSE
In my darkest of hours
When the world was so raw
And the rose wouldn’t flower
But would only sprout thorns
There was only despair
That would walk by your side
Suddenly you were there
You were turning my tide

BRIDGE
You were holding me tight
Like you’d never let go
There was only your eyes
Looking deep in my own

CHORUS
And the power of love
It can banish your pain
With one magical touch
You can live once again
Oh the power of love
Casts your loneliness out
And when me becomes us
There are no second doubts
You’re the one…

INSTRUMENTAL

EXTRA
The world seems right now
Like it never was before
Open the door
And let the future in

CHORUS
Cos the power of love
It can banish your pain
With one magical touch
You can live once again
Oh the power of love
Casts your loneliness out
And when me becomes us
There are no second doubts

CHORUS
No! The power of love
It can banish your pain
With one magical touch
You can live once again
Oh the power of love
Casts your loneliness out
And when me becomes us
There are no second doubts
You’re the one…

EXTRA
The power of love!
You’re the one…
The power of love!
And you are the one…
