one heart whole

Feedback very welcome  :D

This was actually a quick write, written only a few months ago.
Various versions were recorded in those recent few months too.

I've mixed feelings about it to be honest, the acoustic version is nasty that way too.

one heart whole

there's a warm breeze
  and many ways to survive
     take your worries
and hang them out to dry
hear me if I'm not mistaken
          forgive me all I know
 many loves must be forsaken
to make just one heart whole
to make just one heart whole

      your wily ways
    all these secrets and lies
should have no place
     in your heart or mine
  any thorn can be misleading
     and discolour the rose
 left undone, distraught n needy
   leave me anything but broke
to make just one heart whole

drop all defense , discard pretense
      relinquish resistance, be still

hear me if I'm not mistaken
          forgive me all I know
   many loves must be forsaken
to make just one heart whole

   leave me anything but broke
to make just one heart whole

there's a warm breeze and many ways to
                          survive

@Rightly, Hi I like your style and how your lyrics "breathe" between the lines. I also like the your way phrase. I will need a few more listen-throughs on this song. Best wishes, Tor Løvstad

I just love all the different directions that you go to these days @Rightly but you retain your own unique style. It's really clever and pushes your music in more directions. Loved the saxophone sounds along with everything else. Another Rightly classic  :)

You really have a way with words, Rightly. Creative phrases and delightful rhyming schemes. This piece has a definite feel or mood, and I wouldn't want to mess with it myself. I confess I can't make any sense out of this section:

any thorn can be misleading
     and discolour the rose
 left undone, distraught n needy
   leave me anything but broke
to make just one heart whole

But it doesn't really matter to me, because the feel of it fits well with the rest of it. For me, the value in this song is the mood, the feeling, and I don't need to understand the story of it clearly.

Yo Rightly.

A song well up to your usual anachronistic  and anarchic style.

Remember years ago (70s) the Sci Fi author Michael Moorcock used to appear on stage with Hawkwind and perform impromptu readings of his poetry. Your approach reminds me of that 'stuff the rules' ethos. It works so well.

@CaliaMoko

Hi. part of a verse taken out of context with the rest of the song, may become less relatable than when not taken out of context.

I don't expect to be able to write for everyone but I'll settle for a clear majority.
Everyone I know who derive some sort of pleasure from reading well written lyrics have given me very positive feedback to these lyrics.

With writing I often steer away from being to precise, or "clear".

People are more interested in their own story than they are in mine, and I wouldn't have any other way.

I write songs that are relatable to others, for people I know and for people I don't know.
There are common themes which connect people, I understand this and put this (ordinary) insight into my songwriting,
In this song and generally it works out just fine.

I'm grateful for your feedback n' glad you could appreciate at least the feel of my song.
It's good for me to contemplate the whys and wherefores.  :)

I had to look up that word.

in '84 I was 15 Y.O. I really liked the pop-charts in those days. I liked Madness, Cameo, Gn'R, Ultravox, Howard Jones, George Benson and loads of other styles, bands n' pop acts.
Also at that time I had a genuine dislike for fashion. It didn't bother me too much, I had no money and my folks had other priorities.
I always vaguely thought current trends were almost completely irrelevant.
Sometimes I'd notice other people around me making an effort to be modern, or current, and if they got close enough to be current they seemed to get something out of it.
Well that just didn't work for me.

My girlfriend is a bit younger than myself and she finds it funny that I seemed to have missed the 90's and 00's almost completely.
And it's true, in a way, I did almost miss them completely.
I had a very busy and interesting life at the time, I didn't have time or interest in what was contemporary and fashionable.

I think I may have always been anachronistic. lol.

Glad you like the song @Skub   :D

I find your writing interesting and a little hard to comprehend, which I think is my experience talking rather than anything else.
Truly it doesn't sound like anything else out there and that is quite a feat. Perhaps missing the 90s and 00s has helped you retain some true originality.

Finding it hard to be constructive here as most of the choices your have made, I would have done differently but that is what makes your music fascinating.
What I would suggest doing differently would make it less unique.

Carry on ploughing that unique furrow Sir, look forward to hearing more...

I really value "unique", in any artist, but of course that's not the be all and end all.

I'm not intentionally so, I'd have a job being intentionally less unique.
Music making is a creative endeavor, Lou reed, Bowie, Prince were often unique.
If they weren't, I dare say we never would have heard of them.
That's what makes them interesting.
We're not in the army or even working for some self conscious corperation.

I have to respectfully disagree.
Without diversity in culture and art it would be extremely dull for everyone.

Maybe experience is an obstacle for appreciating the good stuff for some, not for me.
I'm obviously good at what I do. I do plough when it's called for but often it's a walk in the park.

Well stay tuned, I'll probably stay interesting for some years to come.  :D

You have a very original and distinctive approach to making music and to singing. I thought the musical palette that you chose for this was very imaginative and original. Vocals are intriguing and effective. For me, the song lacked a little in the melody department but it is very cleverly written.
