I wrote this song as
something of what might be a drunken monologue

He's talking to himself, quietly though.

Like most drunks, he has his share of problems.

This I my cubase version.
I can't wait to get it right on guitar, it'll be a blast to play live with confidence.

Feedback very welcome

More Forgiving When Drunk

I never asked you for anything
you never asked for it back
found unknowing when the going was green
I still have problems with that

Venus, Apollo, your good self and I
Drink too much and then some
Why must the bottle ever leave me dry?
more forgiving when drunk

but oh no, mercy me, oh my
damned if I do so I probably won't
oh my God, more forgiving when drunk

not enough for us to rest assured
we make do with what we have
no witless wonder here is keeping score
and things didn't turn out too bad

Venus, Apollo, your good self and I
don't like what we've become
left for lost, problems are magnified
the gods, more forgiving when drunk

but oh no, mercy me, oh my
I‘m falling into a deep blue funk
oh my God, more forgiving when drunk

I thought they'd keep you from the frey
oh my God, more forgiving when drunk
oh my God, more forgiving, oh my God

Rightly.  You continue to push the boundaries with your songwriting. Always something different and original.  This has so much going on that I will need quite a few more listens before I can give you more detailed feedback. This is superb

Thanks John.

Yo Rightly.

I hear elements of David Byrne in this one.

It's a satisfying song on so many levels. Lyrically peerless and composition wise, entirely your own style.

Deep stuff and not for the 'one listen' crowd, they'll miss out,so stuff them anyway.  8)

Hi Rightly. Your style is unique which means all your songs are distictive. like the others, this song takes me to another realm,  the world of Rightly. Its a unique world, more poetic and gentle than the world i normally experience. Almost dreamlike. Thanks!

Hi,

This is original - excellent songwriting. There is a lot going on sonically - maybe too much as it can distract from the song itself at times. Having said that, it's a brilliant arrangement and production job. I thought the vocal was superb - perfect for the song. So refreshing to hear something that sounds like nothing else but that works so beautifully.

Love this, Rightly. I listened to it a few times. It seems to me it's about a couple. He is Appolo and I, and she is Venus and her good self, a couple who get along better when they're drunk. This is my housemates situation, so maybe that's why I'm seeing it this way. Maybe that's not what you're saying at all.

Excellent singing and the cubase is working great for you, isn't it? I look forward to hearing the guitar version as well.

 @mickyplankton

Thanks. Very well put.
Poetic? Gentle?
Why not just say it!?      Pretentious!!  LOL.

buT yes that one thing I'd like to get done with  my efforts, another world sort of thing.
We are all living in our own worlds, more or less.
It's been proven with social n psychological experiments, and elsewhere too.
But to capture that insight and then and use it playfully is a fine thing. If it can be done.

Thanks.

@redrhodie
You've a good interpretation.

But I was thinking more
Of a drunks internal monologue with his deceased father.

Venus n Apollo are the higher selves.
Your good self - here, the deceased father
And I - the lower self.  It's little private theater piece in the mind of one lonesome drunk.

It is a bit confusing but internal monologues would be so if they were heard by anyone else.

An insight is reached, the drinker realises he can forgive when drunk and isn't so forgiving when sober.

I've been watching out for patterns in my own behavior lately.
I'm good in the mornings, and more restless in the evenings.
My boozing habits are well under control. My own little self management efforts are paying off.

Glad you like the song.

Hey rightly

It's such a great lyric - and you've done it justice musically.
I'm not sure about the sound effects and it is a bit busy for me, but I love the arrangement, vox, and the unpredictability.  ;D ;D

Good work  ;D

Drinking-related sounds a nice touch! I like the lyrics a lot - clever and original and as some have noted, quite poetic. Instrumentation is great and interesting - I particularly liked the keys and strings.

Accomplished piece @Rightly and exposes more with each listen.

Thanks Paul!

I suppose it is quite busy with the effects.
I'm still trying things out. If it's a mistake, I mean with those effects, it's one I had to make, and it's all for the greater good.
I've a long way to go but I'm moving in the right direction.

It was put together for someone else to sing, she quietly changed her mind, couldn't get with it.
We agreed she'd sing a different song n that's still hanging in ze air.
I sang it myself and after mixing I should have turned down the vocals (just a bit), I didn't.
Still it seems to work for some.

I'm learning fast, I think, and I've so many unproduced songs in the bag, I have to keep moving. Maybe with more patience.
My opportunities to get down to work come with irregularity, I might soon be able to remedy that.

I'm glad you liked the song!
