Hey All,

Hope everyone well. Sorry, ive Been a bit absent over the summer. The heatwave and world cup not very conducive to creativity!  Here is a song that has had a bit of a chaotic but charmed life. I actually deleted the files to this song a year and a half ago and thought it was gone for ever, but when i got a new ipad recently, it had backed up to an earlier Garageband state and although that meant i lost some new songs i was working on, this one got restored. Swings and roundabouts i guess.

I did a bit of mixing work on it and added some sound effects, perhaps too much? Anyhow here it is. Feedback on any dimension appreciated.

The Last Broadcast

On Wednesday nights
I pick up the transmission from Beijing
That’s when you come around
And we discuss the big picture

On Thursday’s I get a signal from Greenland
Its far out man, what they are planning
We drink the good wine first, of course
In a bid to stop the suffering

A direct feed from Anchorage
Received sometimes on a Friday
But I’m too far gone to understand
And decipher what they’re saying

Saturday I miss a telex from SETI
Informing me of mankind’s greatest discovery
The machine is buzzing, shaking and bleeping
I’m in the dead zone, although I’m not sleeping

I’m waiting for the last broadcast
We’re waiting for the last broadcast
The world is spinning it’s moving too fast

Hi,

I too have been hampered by the weather, the world cup, Wimbledon and now a new puppy hence my long absence. This is another song that reminds me of 80's indie pop - is it coming back into fashion? I love the originality and the way you've used synths to mimic the sound as you turn the dial between stations. I'm finding this strangely enjoyable although it's not my usual thing. I take my hat off to anyone who has the imagination to come up with something which sounds like nothing that has gone before yet echoes what others have done in the genre.
Anyhow, I thought it was great.

really like this. Best punk rock I remember hearing.
those effects are delicious

There must be loads of top quality bands of this genre out there, they're off my radar.

Say, can you give me a few band names.
I could look into it and see if I can get inspired enough to do something in a similar style.
I'm sure to miss the mark completely, but the outcome will be fun.

Thanks for sharing.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

And there you have it.

This sounds great Micky.  The lyrics are intriguing. The music has bags of attitude and feeling.  Touches of The Fall. I really like the FX that you have been experimenting with. This is a breath of fresh air. Excellent work  :)

Yo Micky P.

I caught this on the cloud a couple of days ago.

I dig the live sounding recording,it captures energy missing from a lot of music.

I hear influences right back to the Velvets.

It's a 'bite yer face off slowly' choon!  8)

The Last Broadcast

This is a very retro sounding song.  It’s instantly catchy and emotive.  Much of that emotion comes from the guitar harmony.  I’d love to hear it cleaned up a little - not so overdriven, but only a little.  The vocal is excellent for this genre of music.  I basically enjoyed listening; sometimes, for reasons that I can’t quite put my finger on!  Very Cool Song!

This is cool. Weird off beat vocals work great. Love the effects. Definitely not too much.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the Feedback. I’ve been so chuffed by it and being nominated for the song of the month, I’ve decided to re-record it, the new version is faster and in a different key. I’ve tinkered with the melody too.

Here’s version 2

Sounds as catchy as ever. I am used to the first version now, which I think had a bit more gravitas to it being slower and in a lower key - but I'm not good with change, ha ha!  ::)

These changes have probably made it more accessible, I will give you that for sure, but I will have another listen in a bit and see if I am coming round to this version.

Both very good versions anyway, well done.
My latest novel: pls check it out!

‘Gavin & The Bodysnatchers’, a quirky comedy crime thriller. Easily found on Amazon.

Hi!

I really like the drive in this song, especially the intro with the synergy between the drums and the guitar strumming.
The structure of the song is also very good! - Unexpected ending though.

And thanks Tor

I’ve actually remixed it again. This is my latest (and favourite) version.

Liked it from the first bar - moves along nicely with some great sounds going on and I love some of the changes of pace...not over keen on the vocal delivery but it has a touch of joy division about it and has loads of potential.

Nice four on the floor feel about it, enjoyed it very much.
Intriguing sky-fi subject matter, can't work out if it is apocalyptic or not.

Would've been grooving to this in a post-punk indie disco back in the day.

Hi,

I listened the latest mix, version 2. The vocals are much better in the second mix.
Anyway the song is a good indie or punk song.

Well done.
