New song, quick and dirty arrangement, performance and recording. Not sure if this will get in the set or not. See what you good folks reckon!

Hairless in Jim Repose

https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v3/player.cfm?type=single&songid=13735178&q=hi&newref=1

Hairless Jim and One-Eyed Mick fell in love over a charcoal stick
One hot night in the sketching class
Said Mick, “D’you mind if I come near? I can’t see what I want from here.”
Said Jim, “Do you need a looking glass?”

Love amongst the charcoal, the pastels and the paint
Two minute poses, made without complaint
“Hold it there! Please don’t move. That’s the best one yet.
“If I can get a likeness, I’ll post it on the net.”

With just one eye, and classroom light, Mick struggled to get perspective right
And all his lines were drawn with a shaking hand
What was thick looked kind of thin, his straights were bent and his outs went in
Yet what was modest turned out very grand.

Love amongst the charcoal, the pastels and the paint
Two minute poses, made without complaint
“Hold it there! Please don’t move. Yes, that’s the one.
“If I can get a likeness, I’ll show it to my mum.”

When the time came to cast an eye over the finished work, Jim went shy
He wondered just how Mick had captured him
But Jim did blush in sheer delight, Mick had got the angles right
He’d never so looked so hard and yet so trim

Love amongst the charcoal, the pastels and the paint
Two minute poses, made without complaint
“Hold it there! Please don’t move. I can’t believe my eyes.
“If I can get a likeness, I’ll tattoo it on my thigh.”

And so love came to Jim and Mick, as surprising as a magic trick
And as a beautiful as a Van Gogh rose
Michelangelo and Rafael could not have conjured such a spell
As Mick’s did with his “Hairless Jim in Repose”

Love amongst the charcoal, the pastels and the paint
Two minute poses, made without complaint
“Hold it there! Please don’t move. That’s the best one yet.
“If I can get a likeness, I’ll post it on the net.”

Lovely harmless foot tapping melody - is this what they call a shanty ?
Well produced , lovely Irish brogue , impossible not to like really .
Thanks for sharing xxx

Whato

Cracking tune, great playing too, might benefit from a blown jug in the background (ithat's always a happy fun way to add some bass to this kinda tune), and maybe some country-ish shuffly drums, but they are not really necessary.

Really like the happy vibe, made my Saturday morning lay in even better

Thanks

Hey Derek
And how is this a WIP?
Hehe - us mortals would call this more than finished.
Love the lyrics and the foot-tappin' speed, vox good as are the harms.
Maybe needs a harp solo just to allow it (you?) to breathe a bit in the middle?
Oh and lovely pickin  ;D

Hi @Paulski

Thanks for the positive comments - much appreciated. I'm kind of caught between two forums here. Always used to drop my stuff in the Finished Songs forum, but often then got a lot of comments about the lack of production. Quite rightly, too. So instead I now frequent (albeit infrequently) the WIP area as production doesn't seem to be deemed a requirement so much (although it still gets touched upon sometimes). So, yes the song is finished, but the production / performance isn't.

Perhaps we need a third area?

Cheers
Derek
