Hi I wonder if I could propose a lyric  competition only  everyone is allowed one entry and its voted purely on the lyrics - I will narrow it down to a final 3 or 5 depending on the entrants then we will have a poll and all entries are posted on this thread (only one per person ) competion ends June 30th -

Anyone fancy it - Maybe then the winner could have their work made into a song by someone on the forum

I'd be up for this. Would it be just any old song lyrics, or would you like to narrow things down with a theme or some such?

I am interested. I'll watch for updates. And I'll start trying to think of something worthy.

I'd be up for it. Far more of a lyricist than a melodicist :-)

I certainly won't be taking part in this
My approach to lyrics, and I find the best lyrics are personal or subjective.
There is no fixed standard that can live up to that approach.

Still there are some extraordinarily talented lyricists on here,
Paul ads would be an obvious example.

It'll be interesting to see what comes out of this competition.

Good luck to everyone who competes.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

And there you have it.

Please feel free to post from now -there's no real rules just that only one per person is allowed - if it's ok with the mods - post on this thread ( or I'll start another one and it finishes last day in June then I'll put a list of my top 5 or 3 and have a poll and if it's a success someone else can do.it next month xxx

Good luck xxx

What I like about competitions is they motivate me to finish something. I have no problem starting songs; I have starts of songs all over the place. I'll never be able to finish them all. But finishing one...now that's a challenge. And I've never tried to write just a lyric by itself before, so this will be different for me.

How true! How many do I have started and not finished? But I do enjoy popping back to their digital pages every now and again to polish this or that.

I'd be game for this, too, and am glad to see you make the suggestion. What drew me to this thread in the first place was that I was going to post a thread here with the same title, but a different focus. American Songwriter has a lyric contest six times per year and I wanted to post some of the lyrics of the winners. It struck me as a useful idea to post the lyrics of contest winners to get a look at what others are writing, and how they structure their lyrics.

As I said in another post I think it's good to read what others are writing - whether you are an author , poet, or write lyrics

So how would you do this? Similar to SOTM where some poor bastard combs through a month's worth of lyrics and narrows it down to a handful? Or in the vein of drum challenge, with lyricists actively pursuing the gold medal?
