Hello

What better way to cast off those winter blues and leap enthusiastically into springtime than to write a new song using the drum track from the clash's "complete control" ?

The original drum track is here

https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ah2h_joGZ8_NqCWNc9l6T6To5Z48

It comes in around 169 bpm  :o

The song can be in any style and genre...or even an instrumental...anything you like.

Guidelines:

All entries to be posted in the “finished songs” section of the forum and marked “drum challenge” with all entries to be posted, if possible, during the last week of May and the closing date to be midnight on Thursday May 31st.

In true punk fashion, the drum challenge is open to any forum member...and to make it extra special...the Moderators @Boydie @tone @nooms @Ramshackles are all invited for this one too.

We'd all LOVE to hear as many as possible have a go at this...so please join in the fun.

Hosted by @PaulAds with John @pompeyjazz assisting.

Solo efforts and Collaborations welcome!

The original ideas thread is here http://www.songwriterforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=15226.0 which may help answer any questions.

Who is up for the challenge?

Cheers Paul!! I will be throwing my hat in the ring on this one...

Just been working on it now...it amazes me (not in a big headed way of course) that we write all parts to a song (except for drums in this case). I've almost got my rhythm guitar parts sorted....now just the bass, vocal melody, lyrics and lead guitar parts to go! May 31st here I come!

Nice one Paul.

Already rolling with this so will hopefully be done before the deadline. Having fun with it!

Good luck with the collab.

Thanks guys, great to know the bpm. Haven't done that energetic for about 40 year. Not sure I can play that fast...we'll see.

And apart from being bleeding fast the structure isn't quite regular.. :-)

Ha ha! Aye...get yer skates on Neil!

Had half an hour with ye olde 6120 this afternoon...and managed to get a chorus going for the song Vicki and I are working on...and the chords sounded a lot like another song...and then the penny dropped, so I changed it a little so it was the same and made it a secret homage to another favourite band from my formative years...

I'm up for the challenge. The best thing with these challenges is that no matter what you end up with you still get to listen to the other contestants songs. Kind of reassuring when the third verse is blank. That might be a pun.
