I know this is going to be a really unpopular opinion, and I appreciate he wrote the song but I was disappointed when I heard this. I mean it is an incredible song just this version really isn't that good at all. Chris Cornell does a cracking version

It took all the restraint I had to not click the "ban forever" button   

It is great everyone has different tastes, and I am clearly biased, but I couldn't listen to more than a few lines of the Chris Cornell version!

I was lucky enough to hear prince play this song live. There is no better version imho.

For what it’s worth (£0.00) I got 1:50 into Prince’s version and honestly thought it was pretty awful.

I remember how crazy my best friend and I would go whenever When Doves Cry would come on the radio. We'd scream when we'd hear that beat, then get perfectly still when he started to sing. His voice was just so sexy. We saw Purple Rain at the theater and let me tell you, it was awesome being a teenage girl that day. Haha.

I'm going to sit safely on the fence and say I thought all these versions were darn good.  Testament to the quality of the song itself that so many people can put their spin on it... it's obviously not just the particular production in one case that makes it work.  Cracking song.
Talking of His Purpleness, have you heard this?

Janelle Monae's song "Make Me Feel".  Apparently Prince co-wrote it or something, but it's almost as if Kiss-era Prince had been reborn into Janelle's body.  Not my usual cup of splosh but I like this.

Boydie has his own sources to get hold of enough unreleased Prince music to last a lifetime 

I have also seen the high res photos and descriptions of the material in the vault and recent reports indicate that it is all in good condition after fears that some of it was flood damaged

There is a phenomenal amount of material yet to come out so it will be interesting to see how much is already out there as boot legs
