I'm currently going through my vast collection of lyrics and re-formatting (occasionally re-writing them) all so I thought I'd throw on eof the in here I've just prettied up (I'm re-printing them all and putting them in a file so I can see them all in one gloriously-egotistical place!).

This one is called Dark Fairy Tale and stemmed from me thinking about what really happens after "and they all lived happily-ever-after". In my song-writing world that means cue the cynicism and upset the kiddies by removing their rose-tinted glasses...

----

VERSE
You think Cinderella
Had her “happily-ever-after”
But beyond the storyteller
Ain't exactly a barrel of laughter
She had tried too hard
To play her cards
But she got dealt the Knave of Hearts
Now barely three years later
And the marriage is a disaster

VERSE
Children in the nursery
Are both crying out for mother
But the day is much too early
And she’s lying with a lover
All the pills she pops
They cannot stop
The world from coming out on top
And the circle keeps on turning
From one nightmare to another

CHORUS
Oh! Oh-oh!
When the heart starts to fail
Oh-oh!
It's a dark fairy tale
Oh-oh!
Why does love prove so frail
Oh-oh!
In a dark fairy tale?

VERSE
Snow White looks so wary
As she stares into the mirror
Cos the lines are getting scary
And the face is looking thinner
“Where the Hell is he?!!
It's half-passed-three
But he's with her and not with me
Why do I let him hurt me?
I should feed him to my lawyers!”

VERSE
Dawn breaks in the distance
As he creeps into the bedroom
She's awake but doesn't let on
Even though he reeks of perfume
So she lets him play
His grand charade
And hopes to find the strength one day
To shatter his illusions
And to fight her way to freedom

CHORUS
Oh! Oh-oh!
When the heart starts to fail
Oh-oh!
It's a dark fairy tale
Oh-oh!
Why does love prove so frail
Oh-oh!
In a dark fairy tale?

{INSTRUMENTAL}

VERSE
In a town that lies deserted
For its failure to pay the piper
Where the rats have all been herded
And the thorns are creeping higher
In a tower locked
At the very top
Still waiting for her prince to stop by
All she's known are nightmares
Through a century of slumber

VERSE
In a hut deep in a forest
Papa bear is fairly seething
At the young girl in a nightdress
Who is in his bed asleep
And in the corner, look:
Red Riding Hood
Has three scared pigs strung up on hooks
She's holding them all hostage
Cos she's lost the plot completely

CHORUS
Oh! Oh-oh!
When the heart starts to fail
Oh-oh!
It's a dark fairy tale
Oh-oh!
Why does love prove so frail
Oh-oh!
In a dark fairy tale?

This is my fairy-tale ending
My dark fairy tale
This is my fairy-tale ending
I cannot escape

This is my fairy-tale ending
This is my dark fairy tale...
