Many years ago William Shakespeare is said to have written this sonnet and about 25 years ago I wrote the music to it.
I played it many times in the theater back then. I later played it in my own gigs after a more rockin' song.
A "keep 'em on their toes" sort of strategy. I'm not sure if it worked but I enjoyed playing it.

This version I recorded about 2 years ago.

There are other arrangements in youtube Etc. I don't care for them much.
I may have changed a word or two here n' there.

Feedback welcome.

And here are the original lyrics:

Come Away Death

Come away, come away, death,
And in sad cypress let me be laid.
Fly away, fly away, breath;
I am slain by a fair cruel maid.
My shroud of white, stuck all with yew,
             O, prepare it!
My part of death, no one so true
         Did share it.

Not a flower, not a flower sweet,
On my black coffin let there be strown.
Not a friend, not a friend greet
My poor corpse, where my bones shall be thrown.
A thousand thousand sighs to save,
             Lay me, O, where
Sad true lover never find my grave,
             To weep there!

Yo Rightly.

A compelling listen. I reckon the bloke responsible for the lyrics may one day be famous and you'll have done your part to get him there.  ;)

Magic stuff.  8)

I've had a look at other sonnets and poems written by ol' Billy but I never did get far with anything else. Maybe one day.

Glad you liked it Skub.
It's very different from my other music, and I like the idea and keeping my output very diverse.
Both Sting and Rufus Wainwright kept their output diverse and have really covered a whole lot of ground over the years.
One never knows what to expect from these two.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.
