Hey everyone, back with a new one.
Not sure if this should really be in the 'finished' category, as I feel there's still a lot more work to be done. But on a purely songwriting perspective (shoddy recording aside) I feel it's pretty much done.
Anyone who's listened to my previous entries knows that I'm normally a fairly chilled out folky-blues kinda writer. This is my homage to my absolute hero, Frank Zappa. As with all of my recordings, I write and perform all the instrumentation, and I'd be very curious to hear peoples thoughts on this piece, as it's a fairly "far out" and experimental tune for me.
So please excuse the rubbish recording quality, and enjoy!

Lyrics:

The wheel is still turning but the hamsters left the cage.
Oh yes the wheel is still turning but the hamsters left the cage.
Your mouth's awful big but your brain is very small.
Your mouth's awful big, and so it seems....
Genetic stupidity exists after all.

Yeah - I listened to this earlier and really liked it. It's earthy and with it man  :) Sure it could be spruced up a bit production wise but personally I liked it as it is  :)

Good work  :)

Oooh, never been compared to Iggy Pop before! :P
I'm hoping to actually really record this one properly. Any thoughts on the guitar solo, anyone? :P

I'll second  'kevysc' for  the Iggy pop note on your singing style.

the riff is cool, the drums kicks your ass and the solo is nice( a bit long but i'm not going to complain for that),
That's all you need for a great punk rock song.

There should be more songs about hamsters, obviously. I was hoping for something a bit quirky and a lot of fun - re the title - and was not disappointed. Kind of 70s prog rock guitar gets a bit punky. Catchy song and big on entertainment factor. Cool!
My latest novel: pls check it out!

‘Gavin & The Bodysnatchers’, a quirky comedy crime thriller. Easily found on Amazon.

yes.......very zappaesque! I loved zappa and this is very clearly in his style with the arpeggios and hanging chords behind the solo. Nice playing mate! Enjoyed it!
I noticed you'd quoted a Zappa lyric in your header before I listened, and I wasn't disappointed.
Cheers

What about guinea pigs? or capybyras ( now that's a rhyme to sort out)

Hi David,

Right up my street this, Dirty vocals, guitars, love it.

Zappa a bit before my time, but this can never get old.

Some fancy guitar work in there, sweeettt.

great work. let me just reach for that volume button, get it up on 11...

There are so many things in here which I shouldn’t like (never got Zappa or any progressive stuff really) but it got me bobbing around. I think the drums and vocal really make it into something - was really happy when they returned! Not my thing but creative and happy to hear some different ideas.

My opinion is not very relevant cause Im not a musician but the rules of the Forum say i should comment so here we go: nice song! What an amazing solo!! I really like it! I like the fact that you gave a lot of space for the solo, tipical of non commercial songs. Nice almost guttural vocal! When I read the lyric and started listening to the song i thought: can’t believe the whole 5 minut song will be just this short lyric but with that solo you almost dont realise lol
Congrats!

David

This is one of my favourite songs at the moment, very refreshing, I just have a couple of questions, did you play the drums, what guitar
/amp/fx do you use.

listened to it with my breakfast this morning, I especially like the vocals, both the lyrics and the overdriven preamp sound, simply brilliant.

Thanks
