Hi everyone,

I went on holiday to Ireland last year and heard quite a bit of traditional music in the pubs. It inspired me to try and write a traditional sounding Irish tune and this is what I came up with. All feedback much appreciated. The English Concertina is played by my Australian friend Bruce (yes, really!) Millar. Mastering by Boydie

**Edited by Boydie to use the SOUNDCLOUD embedding feature**

Oh my lovely girl
Let me take you down
To where the wild garlic grows
We can sit and linger a while
And watch how the winding river flows

Feel the grass beneath our feet
Walking in the summer heat
We can share our thoughts and dreams
Running barefoot by the stream

I must  go  and fight
In a distant land
So please still remember me
My silver ring is in your hand
Our names carved on the willow tree

But if I should not return
All my letters you must burn
Find yourself another lad
To treat you right and don't be sad

I have been away
For many long years
The scars of war slow to heal
I have seen many lonely roads
Thousand miles under my wheels

I came home from foreign lands
To see you had another man
With his baby at your breast
But I will never love you less

Lovely song. When it comes to romantically associated flora mistletoe and roses might be high on the list but you place leek right up there with 'em.

Also the slow melody on the accordion works good in contrast with the more rhythmic guitar parts.

Beautiful song with lyric and music well suited to each other. I like how it ends hanging instead of on the tonic...illustrates how he is left in limbo.

You likely already know my thoughts on clear enunciation, so I won't belabor those two little instances (treatchoo right, atchore breast).  ;) Otherwise all well and nicely done. Sweet/sad mellow sound to match the mood of the song.

Ah, wild garlic. Nature’s pungent bounty. Makes a lovely pesto. One of my fave things to do in the spring is go out in the woods with a basket and forage it (yep, I’m man enough to skip around carrying whicker).
All of which has nothing to do with your song. Sorry.
The song is lovely - a piece of trad Ralph McTell-esque folk. I liked the percussion a lot (what is it? A bodhran?) and like Vicki said the surprise resolution at the end was a delight. Nicely sung and (in this case) I like the way you don’t over emote and try to sound heartbroken or anything. Top stuff.
It's all too beautiful.

First up. Top marks Monty for the title. Where the Wild Garlic Grows is the best title for a song ive come across in a long time. This alone is so evocative and lets face it,  Garlic has been criminally under represented by songwriters over the years!

The song itself does not disappoint. You have done the subject and the inspiration for it justice. You took a risk with the ever so soft drums there too as you needed to get the balance perfect for it to work and it does. so in my view, very skilled work .

Really pretty. Love the percussion, and all the music. Your voice is sweet and smooth. It's like melt in your mouth chocolate. Haha. The lyrics are great. You nailed it.

Lovely tune, and I also liked the accordion/concertina part. The recording quality is good as well and I can hear all the parts clearly.
I'm not very familiar with this type of music, but I liked your song very much.

Hi matey,

This is nice, Folky, Instrumentation fits together nice, Like your vocal too.

Nice chill out tune, for me a "headphones on and kick back on a summers day" tune.

Great work.

Really nice. Loved the percussion as it built up and your melody/vocals all fit together beautifully. A very sweet song. Fine bit 'o guitar and a lovely outro too. (And i now know what ending on a tonic means :)
Wonderful stuff. cx

Yo Alan.

On hols in the oul sod were ye? I don't recall being asked for permission, but I'll let it fly this time.  ;)

It's a lovely, lilting song man and Bruce the Oz does very well on the Melojin! (Norn Iron speak)

The old bodhran thumps along there to great effect.

A very pleasing song Alan.  8)

Hi Alan,

You've captured the mood very well with this one. Lovely melody and singalong quality. I can imagine listening to this sitting next to a log fire swilling down some black velvety stuff  :)
