Understand what turns a man to drink

Understand what turns a man to drink
What it is that takes him to the brink ?
and makes him try to tame his sorrow
Sitting in the darkest corner, blocking out tomorrow

Pretty women , pretty girls
don't look his way anymore , like they did before
he stares into his half full glass
no one asks about his day

Understand what turns a man to drink
What it is that takes him to the brink ?
and makes him try to tame his sorrow
Sitting in the darkest corner, blocking out tomorrow

he should go home, he's drunk enough
he likes to be alone , at the pub with distant company
he likes the sadness, that clings to him
he likes its heavy feel,  it brings him comfort

Understand what turns a man to drink
What it is that takes him to the brink ?
and makes him try to tame his sorrow
Sitting in the darkest corner, blocking out tomorrow

he often thinks , what might have been
he hates the past but lives in it
he feels the sadness in his house
the timber frames and walls reek of it

Understand what turns a man to drink
What it is that takes him to the brink ?
and makes him try to tame his sorrow
Sitting in the darkest corner, blocking out tomorrow

her smile beams at her from her photo
as he goes to the fridge for another beer
he pauses and so does time
he wants to block out tomorrow, he always does

Understand what turns a man to drink
What it is that takes him to the brink ?
and makes him try to tame his sorrow
Sitting in the darkest corner, blocking out tomorrow

I enjoyed that
it would be some nice prose if it wasn't written as song lyrics.
So the subject knows that his time is pretty much over and he tries to get comfortable with it.
He's making himself at home in his DIY tomb.

I wouldn't repeat the understand verse so much.
But then maybe you already have a tune for these lyrics

Thanks Katie
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

Don't eat the yellow snow

And there you have it.
