That My Friend, Is What Memories Are For

All these moments we hold in our hands
They fall away like grains of sand
Helpless through the hourglass
In the end it all just comes to pass
And it breaks us as we watch them fade
Like memories we never made
That breaking somehow lights the way
Across a thousand yesterdays

To a place where hope restores
To keeps us holding, holding on for more
That my friend, is what memories are for

Hey you It's me
Way back here in your memory
I heard you say
I'm the last voice you thought you'd hear today

Time, it rushes by so fast
Taking moments we all wish would last
And gives us hope for what's in store
That's what memories are for

They'll shake you free they'll hold you tight
They'll burn your soul in the middle of the night
They'll dry your eyes when your heart is sore
That my friend, is what memories are for

I know you're there
Some days I still see you everywhere
I've wished you'd stayed
Every moment since you went away

In this life sometimes we have no choice
When we mourn, when we rejoice
As we walk this one-way corridor
That's what memories are for

They'll shake you free they'll hold you tight
They'll burn your soul in the middle of the night
They'll dry your eyes when your heart is sore
That my friend, is what memories are for

They'll shake you free they'll hold you tight
They'll burn your soul in the middle of the night
They'll dry your eyes when your heart is sore
That my friend, is what memories are for

Mate, this is ace!
Is it your voice?  It is so full of character.
I love the lines "Hey you, it's me, way back here in your memory".
Sometimes a song comes along that is so simply produced it just blows you away - this is one of those.  No need for drums or guitar effects or anything else... just a characterful voice and something to say.  A fine track.
It's all too beautiful.

Real moody feel song , I can imagine one of the old country stars singing this as they chewed on a bit of tobacco or maybe Johnny cash or elvis dropping his lip to this

Neat one Pat,

Liking this, relaxed delivery supported by gentle spoken word delivery.
Some cool lines in there too.

Excellent song, great lyrics and your voice is exceptional ... mixing spoken with finely tuned and resonant crooning! (I think I can hear an Irish accent in there, which of course, it s a good thing  ;))

Great job

Not much to add - strong lyrics and a great performance. Very individual and personal, like we're there in the bar. Make mine a double...

Hey Pat.

This is utterly compelling,a startlingly earthy performance in your own inimitable style.

Wonderful.  8)

Ayy, Writing as I listen
I like the hammer ons in the chords
subtle but cool. When the vocals hit It made me think of "Everythings gonna be allright, Rock a bye" Idk what that song's called haha. I like the words, Very soothing. When you start singing it hits really well. These lyrics are beautiful. Good job man!

I understand how you feel. I am also sometimes too quick to delete, hence my post above. I don't remember exactly what I wrote, but it was positive.

Awesome song. Bob Dylan would be happy to have written this one. Wonderful voice too.
