Hi this another Pompey Jazz/Morefrog Jones Collaboration.

Its an attempt at a northern soul song/tribute to a popular underground dance movement still popular in the UK and other parts of the world.

The lyrics reference many well known classic northern soul songs:

https://soundcloud.com/morefrog-jones/all-nighter-original-northern-soul-tribute-song

All Nighter.

Ive got bills to pay and the boss man's on my case.
But you've gotta keep on keeping on.
You've gotta pay your dues and walk in my shoes.
To know a feeling is coming on.

I'll be glad when the weekend comes
So i can dance to my favourite songs
At the all - nighter
Seven days is far too long
to get back to where I belong
At the all - nighter

Temptation is calling me
I need the music to set me free
and get me back on the right track
Ive got to try a little harder
but the music gives me chills & fever
and pours over me like a landslide.

I'll be glad when the weekend comes
So i can dance to my favourite songs
At the all - nighter
Seven days is far too long
to get back to where I belong
At the all - nighter

Chorus Repeat

Thanks for listening :)

Wow, well that's kicked the January blues into touch...!
Could not avoid shaking my booty to this one.
The vocals sounding like a kind of hybrid between the two of you... is it your lead vocal MFJ?  It's got a different feel to your normal delivery if so, but it really works well.  It's slightly less "slacker cool" than you normally sound but has it's own brand new character: proper funky bandleader type persona.  Let's hear more from that guy alongside the cool slacker.
The horns were interesting.  Some of them sounded like they were playing backwards!  I liked that effect, a little weird but memorable.
And the pumping relentless kick drum = guaranteed floor shaker.
Is the female vocal hook a sample, or did you enlist the help of a friend?
It's all too beautiful.

Yo Mofo and PJ

I liked this from the word go.

There's that Stones vibe that's always present in your songs,it probably your vocals mostly which remind me of Jagger.

It's a fine bundle of danceable coolness.  8)

Oooohh NICE

I love my northern soul so this was never going to miss the spot. I love Pompeyjazz and MFJ too.

A really great song...captures the vibe brilliantly!

Morefrog's vocals never sounded better either...knocked it out of the (fratton) park

The catchphrase "keep on keeping on" was - I think from "too late" by Larry Williams and Johnny Watson which also has a couple of my favourite lines ever...

"You can go and find y'someone else
I can live cheaper by myself
Don't need no woman to help me starve to death...can you dig it?"

Also - please have a watch of this, if you feel so inclined...

I absolutely LOVED it!

Hey hey,

Nice to see you two smashing 'em out.

Been to a few Northern Soul nights and there's plenty to love. We all know Pompz can jump between genres flawlessly and it's great to see how you're adapting and growing togethor working to your strengths.

Great progression throughout the track, awesome vocal and really interesting backings ('like a landslide' got me every listen).

Sure it's easy to fall into copy-cat mode when writing a tribute to a genre like this, especially with the referenced lyrics - but felt very original to me. One to send to my dad as I'm sure appreciate the references a lot better than I.

My favourite collab between the two of you so far I think, keep 'em coming!

All the best,
Scott.

Guy this thing has been on unintended automatic Soundcloud rotation yesterdsy,
So already lodged in my brain.
All the bits are there, insistent beat, strings, brass and the lyrics and vocals work well.
Got the best of the 60's and 80's mixed together.
Nice one

Thanks so much guys. It's always interesting to work with different genres. Me, I love Northern Soul but I'm also very open to every genre popping song on here  :)

Hey I really dig this!

I think the vocals had real character and the use of lots of different voices (recorded at different distances from the mic?) made a real sense of space that kind of transported me into the song so props for that!

The only thing I wasn't too fond of were the jabs at around 30 seconds I think? Just not a fan of that sound and I don't think the song really needed it.  Also with this kind of music I'd consider using slap bass just for the really funky feeling but I'd put slap bass into a piano sonata so feel free to take that with a pinch of salt  ;)

Otherwise i really loved the track and hope to hear more like it! Great job!

p.s. this is my first feedback on this forum so if I sound like I'm being a dick i didn't mean to I promise  :-X

Hey thanks Mesaga. I know what you mean about the stabs. They can be a very painful memory of earlier years. We were just trying to get a slightly more modern spin on a genre that has been sadly neglected and quiet a major influence on a lot of guys growing up in 1970s Britain. It's not everybody's Tass du the for sure but it's been written and recorded in the last couple of months  :)

Number one this week is Mr. Morefrog Jones and his Pompeyjazzers.

Bloody great this is....just the right side of rough mixwise...great energy and blows a lot of other stuff out of the water.

I might have spent more time on it...but I might well have f*cked it up in the process!

Good stuff!

Take it easy.

You can check my stuff out here. Mini-album getting bigger slowly. Free download if you're poorer than me.

It feels like I'm in a room of people smoking weed when I listen to this song. Or at a disco with people with big hair.
