When I create my own songs (as opposed to writing lyrics for others) I begin with the backing track. 2017-B is a simple blues progression. Yesterday I played the solo. I must admit that I always love what I do (most likely I'm the only one, but never mind). When I just published the shortened backing track on my Facebook page I suddenly found that I don't feel like singing on top of this one at all. I like it as is. On the other hand it might be too long - or too boring - to stand for itself. The progression is repeated three times. But maybe I just leave it at the short, faded out version...

Could either do with singing, melody or more transitions/movement if it is to remain as an instrumental.
At the moment, it does feel like a blues backing track to me

Yeah I'd have a vocal unless it's just going to be supporting a piece of film or something.

I'd still do a vocal version anyway. It's interesting to hear it without though...so much space. It pushes the idea for me that the vocal should not be too wordy leaving a lot of space for nice guitar fills etc..a long rambling thing rather than a snappy song.
Take it easy.

You can check my stuff out here. Mini-album getting bigger slowly. Free download if you're poorer than me.

Thank you, guys!

That's it: words - yes, but sparingly to preserve the space and the mood. A soon that I've overcome my cold I'll sing this:

I see her frown
I hear her talk
but I keep lost
in my own thoughts

although I feel
I should respond

I do nothing
but look beyond

what's next to me
I cannot see

what's next to me

***** solo *****

it's been a while
that things felt right
that we made love
or talked all night

I've grown apart
from her and me

I feel like blind
so I can't see

what's next to me
I cannot see

what's next to me
