I've only ever used Reaper, so I can't compare, but I didn't find it at all hard to get into. For the price hard to beat on functionality and it has a great community and forums etc. for any questions (and there are a few of us on here too). Stock plugins are not pretty but totally functional. Doesn't really have any instruments so you have to find those elsewhere.

Of course I'm with Adam here as I've only ever used Reaper but to my mind as an inexpensive and richly functional DAW for around £40 quid it's got to be worth investigating. OK, the GUI's probably not as pretty as some other DAW's but the functionality is incredible and I found it pretty easy to learn.

Hi Paul..what do you mean by 'Cubase is circling'? please..

A rep from Steinberg is on the Sonar forum trying to "woo" Sonar customers

Both Presonus (Studio One) and Steinberg (Cubase) are about to release offers to tempt SONARIANS...

I am definitely leaning towards Studio One at the moment - but haven't tried the demo yet

If it is a "no brainer" (ie less than £150) then I may just jump - anything else and I will take my time with Sonar and consider my options

that's interesting... :) :)I've held off buying the Cubase 9/9.5 updates because I reckon they are too expensive for what they provide so hopefully they'll reduce the price a bit :) :)

You should give the Studio one trial ago, It's a superb DAW, I only keep Cubase around at the mo because of it's chord track which is very handy for writing...as soon as Studio one introduce a chord track (and i think it's only a matter of time) Cubase is history... :) :)
I think the price at the mo is nearer 200 than 150 though..

I am expecting (hoping!) Presonus to do a limited "Sonar only crossgrade deal" to make it a no brainer deal to grab the potentially homeless Sonar userbase - a really good deal could be massive for Presonus to increase their userbase

yeah that's a possibility..If I see anything I'll let you know but you will probably see it first on the Sonar forum..

I have jumped and bought Studio One for $169 through Audio Deluxe. It MIGHT be cheaper tomorrow but equally the Black Friday half price deal ends today I think. I don't mind if it is cheaper - I think £130 for SO3 is an amazing deal anyway.

Also, Alan do not invest in software that is dying! You will be throwing good money after bad.I used Tracktion after its development was stopped (before eventually being rescued) and it became a mess. Plugins stopped working, no real support, horrible.

I am really looking forward to getting to know SO3 and to be honest, I even think it might breathe new life into my songwriting because my familiarity with Sonar has led to a somewhat formulaic approach to writing recently!

Please let us know how you get on

I have read a lot of reports from long-term Sonar users (20yrs plus) that are finding Studio One has given them a new lease of life and they are finding it really "snappy" and quick to use

I can't praise Studio one enough, very snappy GUI and a delight to look at and use, everything seems to have been very well thought out, workflow is very quick.. :) :)

I use Cubase to knock a song together then transfer everything to Studio one to finish it because it's much better to work on than Cubase..

Hi Neil, the work flow in Studio one is light years ahead of Cubase but at the mo I'm starting a song in Cubase because the chord track in Cubase is very handy for a songwriter, plus a gradual transition is the best bet for a thicko like me ;D ;D
I'm fairly sure Studio one will introduce something similar to the Cubase chord track in the near future, when this happens Cubase will be left gathering dust,
working in Cubase after working in Studio one is like trampling in mud!!

a good for instance is..press F1 and the manual appears on the exact page you need for the bit of the DAW you are looking at....awesome, in Cubase you call up the manual and then try to figure out where the heck they've put the info that your after...

cheers mate.. :)

Looks like the Studio One crossgrade for Sonar customers will be $149 until the end of the year  ;D
