Quite a rough recording, so sound engineers might get hurt. lol.
I recorded this in '93
wrote it in '89. I can't relate to it much anymore. I still like it though.  :)
Feedback very welcome

Hunger Rapport

I can't help but feel a hunger rapport, an absence
ask for something not there, as usual I jump in
with grabbing hands into thin air
it's difficult to breathe, I can hardly sing

I can't help but feel, riding on a wheel, without spokes
unstepped ladders, falling with splinters
you a hunger rapport, wanting more n' more
me searching for the core and finding an empty cubicle

it's enough to ask for a wall that is not moving
to draw the curtain back to a view of my choosing
a door that opens fast, a floor beneath my feet
to know where I'm at and something to eat

It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

Hey Rightly
It's a treat to get a post from you after what seems a while.
This one made me feel like I was listening to one of those old Robert Johnson 78s.  I don't think that was just because of the sound recording quality (although that might have been part of it) - there was also something about the emotion and melody in it, that made me think of really ancient blues.
I always have to read your lyrics 3 or 4 times to interpret them, and I like that they are kind of slippery and open to interpretation -  a tad surrealist too.  I like the concept of the wheel without spokes and the 'unstepped ladders' though I'm not sure what they signify.
So overall I'm a little puzzled by this one but also enchanted by it.  It's like a cryptic crossword I haven't got very far with but can't put down.  Time for another listen.
It's all too beautiful.

Yo Rightly.

Always a treat to have a new song fromya,even if it's a new/old song!  :D

Lyrics to ponder and wonder over, all set in a scratchy oblique style that is your own.

Most folk will struggle to find a datum point for a comparison,or a convenient pigeonhole in which to place the genre. You consistently deny them that, because what is left is fresh and sometimes uncomfortable.

A song ought to provoke a reaction and Rightly knows this.

it's difficult for me to explain this song, with it being so old, n' all.
I like the voice on it, it seems freer than it would be if I were to sing it today.

giutar and recording is fairly 'orrible, the rest I find quite charming.

I do wish I'd have put the work in back then.
I can't go back, not all the way.
Well, maybe one day, by accident.
 :)
I'm glad I've got something there.

Great!
Fun to hear something from the past.
The lyrics grabbed my attention. In a way both precise and aimless.
The melody reminds me a bit of Swedish 70's folk-rock music. Something repetitive.

Hey Rightly. I think Paulyx nails it in his review I agree 're Robert Johnson. I also find the lyrics intriguing and a bit obscure, but poetic. what I would add is that the guitar riff that gently holds the whole thing together is a delicate wonder. Again this song would sound great recorded perhaps with a full electric band, but understand why you would not want to revisit

Thanks for your attention folks.

I sort of guessed some would like it where others wouldn't get anything out of it.

standard tuning. key of G. starts in G (the high g is muted while in this chord. while strumming the high d roles down to c then b then c, then repeat) then a chord change to c, with a little bump.
very easy to play if you're used to playing your G that way.

I don't anymore, it'd be time consuming to get back into it and I've a good few new songs I need to learn.

I feel like I'm making some much needed progress (or improvements) with playing. I want to continue down this road for a bit.
hmm.

The lyrics were originally not meant for music, the poem was just a bit of a scribble for myself, I kind of liked it n didn't throw it away.
At some point I must have thought I'd do a G C thing on it. It became one of the songs I had no intention of presenting to anyone. The psychological / emotional space I was in, isn't where I'm at now.

peace
