Hey dudes, bit of a rush job but here's my dark song entry.
I wanted to try something different here and put a stake through the heart of the cheerful cockney urchin who often seems to creep into my songs.  I guess this one is about cynicism in the face of relentless optimism.
So here ya go.
Pauly

LUCKY 13

I hung a horseshoe over my bed
I woke up later with a dent in my forehead
But another nail will fix it, you say a nail will fix it
Another nail will fix it
Lucky 13

I went looking for a rabbit’s foot
I got myxomatosis and that ain’t good
But another drink will fix it, you say a drink will fix it
Another drink will fix it
Lucky 13

The worm at the core keeps on chewing
The worm at the core keeps on chewing

I paid a grand to fengshui master
He kicked in my windows to clear an energy pathway
You say sleep by the radiator
Sleep by the radiator
Lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky 13, lucky 13

The worm at the core keeps on chewing
The worm at the core keeps on chewing

Aaaa oh my days.

The intro came in and I thought how cool that loops sounded? But before it sunk in the vocals started, and I started to ponder how you managed to make them sound so awesome, but suddenly a "yeah" and it threw me back; and this carried on throughout the whole track - until I was thoroughly exhausted, mind blown and rolling a cigarette.

Wouldn't categorise it as easy listening, but sure as hell it's bags of fun.

I love the "cheerful cockney urchin" but you did well to bat him away from this one, vocal really suits.

All the best,
Scott

Dudes,

Defo something different for on here....Not my thing but track went along nicely...

First time the chewing thing come in, my mind was going mental trying to lock in but then, penny dropped and we were back in the room.

Great work guys...

Yo Pauly.

The deep voice is reminiscent of a certain mister Bowie.

Very black magic,ju-ju vibe, sinister and foreboding.

Lyrically brilliant,I loved it.

I always listen on headphones and the distorted sound in my left can was very off putting,I kept thinking my cans had blown a side! It hurt my ears, man :D

definitely different, liked the the rhythmic theme that sounded like a sort of metal uke in the background..maybe ???
clever lyrics but I found the delivery of them a bit weird..needs another listen methinks :)
liked the way you used the perc elements..
very original piece, quite an earworm really.. :) specially the chewing bit 8)

Hello mate,

Lots to love here, I just LOVE the lyrics. Very interesting & great imagery! ;D

I also love how you’ve done the vocals, very cool! The music is cool, but the whole mix is quite loud mate.

Good luck in the comp though buddy! ;)

Hi Pauly

That was different in a good way!
Love the lyrics and the intro music.
Vocals are very good too.
It's pretty much brick-walled with no room to grow but defo "in yer face" if that's what you were going for.

Good luck with this one!
Paul

Now this is clever stuff Pauly. I really like the feel of this track, it's totally up front and in yer face. There are some delightful little sub bass ear ticklers going on there and the whole thing sounds kinda dirty. Agree with Skub, some Bowie influences and I can also hear some Gorillaz going down there. As usual your lyrics are exceptional.

Top tune  ;D

Well that was certainly some trip - worth it just for the 'fengshui master' line.
I think this one would certainly be a grower - and would get in your brain after a few plays.
Dark sounding - and intriguing.

Another Great Entry - So far every entry Ive heard has been well worth the listen and there has not been one 'ordinary' song entered - so well done people. :)

Love that descending bassline - and something quite hiphop and DJish about the production with the repeated acoustic riff too and the drum samples. A fusion...

Possibly lyrics like "that ain't good" betray a bit of the rush (but only compared to your normal stellar levels of honing...)

Great to hear you going for a modern dancy sound, very cool.

I love your lyrics...I also love the way you write, too. You have a major talent.

That chewy bit works great in particular...but some other really interesting sounds going on too.

Excellent  :)

love the chord progression.  Couldn’t be any stronger in my opinion.  The mix is a little uncomfortable in my headphones but as a song.  I think that this is pure quality.

Thanks for the feedback all.
Yes, totally 'mea culpa' on the mix.  This is partly because my mixing approach on this was 'turn everything up until its sounds nasty', and partly because I had to get the mix done in about 10 minutes (I got a job with a long commute recently after months of redundancy - good news for the mortgage but a blow to music time... the long commute though does mean I get time to listen to forum tracks on the train journey, so thanks for providing some fine company).
That thing blowing your left ear is Timpani Skub, and the metal uke thing is a "guitarlele" Shadowfax, which was randomly given to me by a Japanese man once, so I figured it deserved an outing.
Great to hear all the dark tracks crawling out of the tomb as we get closer to the 31st.
It's all too beautiful.
