Just picked it off the wall for comparison to see if it were a god send.

It didn't feel like a mythical beast to me.

I don't really think that it makes an enormous amount of difference regarding the brand of guitar you have when you start out. Hey man, you have a duty to experience those cheapo pieces of wood but you will grow to love them. OK so it would be lovely to have the guitar you desire and job, house etc. It's not about the equipment man, it's what you do with it

Just keep in mind, it could be that a more expensive guitar will stand the test of time better than a cheap one does. IMHO, it most definitely will.

Ageing. Being able to keep its sound throughout the years. Tuning. Intonation and all that.

How it plays and sound is absolutely the key ingredient here but t's not all about that. There are other factors that come into play as well.

When I purchased my Martin acoustic I played every acoustic in the shop from very cheap to the most expensive £5k+ models from Yamaha, Martin, Taylor etc.

The one that I kept coming back to was the one I purchased (a second hand £1,600 Martin with the Fishman Aura pre-amp)

It is very much like the wands in Harry Potter...

...you shouldn't choose the guitar, the guitar should choose you
