Hi peepsters,

Here's a little tune that I worked up to Wicked seasonal ode to love.
He was very generous and just let me get on with it really.

So please have a listen and look forward to your comments and suggestions

 :)

At the start of the Autumn months,
I look to the west,
To the woman that I love so much
I hunger for her gentle touch.

At the start of the autumn months,
my heart wants to cry.
When the autumn winds blow cold and strong,
I'll prepare to sing my winter song.
I pray that we will make it through the fall.

Yes, I pray that the clocks will turn,
that this distance will close.
I've come to love her more than I
had dared to love before, that's why

At the start of the Autumn months,
I yearn for my love.
She's a part of everything that's good,
I need her close, that's understood.
I pray that we will make it through the fall.

I'll prepare to sing my winter song.
I'll prepare to sing my winter song.

I pray that we will make it through the fall

Very sweet...lovely lyrics and a fab, gentle sound.

Two giants of the forum were unlikely to get together and screw things up  :D but you've done yourselves proud here.

An excellent song.

Neil,

I like to say a big thanks for taking my lyrics and delivering the beautiful finished version set to music, so skilfully produced.  The lyrics are taken from a collection of songs that I had written in the early years after my marriage breakdown.  This one was written a year later when I met my beautiful partner Linda.  I drove from the North East to The North West many times during a period of 3 years to keep our relationship alive before finally making the permanent move.  I had so little time but I wrote so many new songs at speed and inevitably didn't have a real base to record my ideas and so the music for this song and several others was lost to my memory.  You have however, skilfully captured the sentiment and brought this one back to life.  Thank you.  :)

Yo Neil and Paul.

There's a lovely gentle, almost hymnal theme to this song. Similar in feel to a recent Knopfler solo offering. Wonderfully done, warm with a sparkling production overall. Lovely tone on the acoustics.

Poignant and beautifully introspective lyrics, capture that old 'end of summer' feeling a lot of folk experience.

Good work you two,we'd expect no less.  ;)

nice match of styles guys
sing this well neil, hear every word
moving lyric not shrouded in ambiguity..
the last lines lift with a little more punch behind it..
felt you could perhaps make a little more of it at that point but can't fault it

beautiful song
i may not believe this tomorrow...

I love this guys :)

It's been up on SC for some time and I've listened to it quite a few times.

It's a lovely gentle vibe and really captures that melancholy autumn feeling.

Superb lyrics and instrumentation as you would expect from such a talented couple of guys

Top notch  ;D

Nice unusual take - there are lots of Spring or Summer songs, but this is looking forward to Winter in a very appealing way.

Very delicate harmonies and some little fills on bass and keys really add some nice detail. I think the simplicity works well and captures the sensitivity of the subject.

Great atmosphere does justice to the original material.

Hey hey,

Very nice lyrics here, everything leads together nicely and almost feels like your floating down the page like an autumn leaf.
Reading the lyrics there's such a lovely natural rhythm and I read them like poetry, so intrigued how they were interpreted musically.

Then as soon as the music started I knew you had a fit, supporting nicely the feelings conjured lyrically and adding to that with some delicate vocals and strong melody.

All thumbs up here!

Cheers,
Scott.

Hello mate, lots to like here. My fave parts are the intro (it's gorgeous as is the rest of the music) I also love the "i prepare" harmony build up to the end. The rest of the vocal melody is ok, but could be better in my humble opinion. :)

I always enjoy listening to your songs though Neil.  ;D

Cheers
Leo

Yessirs, lovely mellow piece. Put me in mind of some of Ray Davies' solo work (that's a very good thing in my book). The intro guitars were sublime and i like the chord transitions into the chorus a lot. Another stand out was the repeating section at the end where you layered the bvs. Maybe some more prominent bvs in the earlier choruses would help them fly too. Great collab fellas.
It's all too beautiful.

Really nice. The lyrics are lovely!!

The track is really nice and chilled. I especially love the lift up at the chorus, it's really uplifting! And I anticipate this song gets better with each listen as there's a lot more going on than I noticed at first listen. the backing music is subtle and beautiful. Great work

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your encouraging comments, its was enjoyable doing it although I was a bit worried about whether Paul would like the result..

Darren, thanks for +ve comment on uplift and detail, I has to in order to support Paul's lyrics

PaulyX, Ray Davies thank you. I think the acoustic was a friends rather lovely Martin parlour guitar I borrowed. BV's get it, you wouldn't believe how long it took to to those at the end.....

Lostboy, thanks a lot, appreciate it from you. Re melody I tried to keep it simple and serve the lyrics so you're probably right

ScottLevi, floating like an autumn leaf :-)

Cawproduction, thanks for listening comments about the song and production

Adam, delighted you picked up the little bits and 6' 4" me trying to be delicate!

Kevin,

Very sweet intro. I was hoping for this nice little riff to come back and soothe me.

Romantic lyrics with a gentle melody. I think you managed to convey that special autumn feeling of sadnees mixed with beauty, rest and some melancholy.

Good song, nice recording. :)
