This is a thread based on the original idea from Martinswede, where the concept was, with permission from the writer, for another forum member to do their own version of the original song.

So before Boydie wastes time performing open heart surgery on the forum software, this thread is a taster to see if there is enough prolonged interest to warrant a forum sub-section. If not, sure it may make a cool thread to visit and contribute on occasion.  :)

Boydie mentioned the rules in another thread that

1. Permission must be granted from the original songwriter

2. The original song must have been posted in 'Finished songs' at least 3 months ago.

I only qualify for number one. The delb0y song is 2 months old and while PaulAds song is an old tune,it hasn't been posted on the forum..to my knowledge, but for the purposes of getting the ball rolling on Martin's idea,I thought those rules may apply from this time onward. Just look on this as the prototype.  :D

This is the original version of delb0y's 'Ten Degrees Colder',a wonderful Gordon Lightfoot style folk song.

And this is the link to my cover version.

This is the link to PaulAds angsty heartbreak,'So Haunt Me'.

And this is my cover tribute.

I love what you've done with both of these, Davy...and it's a lovely thing to have someone devote some of their time and talent like this.

Thank you  :)

Superb job on both of these, and I must say it was very delightful and humbling to have someone cover one of my songs.  ;D

Great that you got things started with this cover stuff!

Nice covers. They both have a warm feeling to them.

Really nice take on those covers, I really like the way they don't try to copy the originals.
I can't see myself having enough time to do anyone else's song justice, but great to follow all the progress.

I thinks it's a top idea

I've already learnt a paul Ads song, "Stand down"

I havent recorded it yet.
and it'd be fun to hear anyone covering me!
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

And there you have it.

for me, hearing someone cover my song helps me see it in a different light,
it could help me a lot. And it's fun.

PaulAds seems a popular chap to cover. Lots of other writers connect with his songs. So Haunt me is haunting me!
I agree Rightly, hearing a different version of your song can open all kinds of doors and give fresh perspective.
I don't imagine this thread will be very busy, but it would be cool to have regular contributors.

Can we have a separate page for Paul Ads covers as well. Seems like we're all inspired by his songs and that's what this forum should be all about. Sharing, encouraging,  helping and giving useful advice  :)

Digging this thread. And love both original song choices.

Great guitar work on Del's original which I really, really like.

I think that your version of Paul's tune really suits your vocal delivery.
Cool

Hi, so here's my cover of Montdog's fab tune.

Here's the original https://soundcloud.com/alan-walker-4/carolina-bound

And here's my bouncy pop version which was a blast to record. It is slightly nervy interpreting someone else's pride and joy but also quite liberating and fun in equal measure if you think you bring something new to the party.

Thanks for listening and to Alan to the tune.

I enjoyed that listen Neil.

Alan's original has a great folky feel and your version works well, giving the song a sort of lazy 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' country rock feel.

I hadn't heard Alan's song before,so it was good to catch up on a blast from the past.  8)

This is a great idea. Occasionally, I hear a song on this forum and think about offering a different interpretation of it. Rightlys There to Disappear is one that springs to mind.
I've had Offers of remixing tracks which I think is also a great idea (my problem is my iPad doesn't allow me to export files which is damn annoying)
Sometimes I hear other people's songs and I think in my head that they are only a couple of melodic tweaks away from being a sure fire hit. But it's sometimes hard to explain what you mean when you are writing it out in a reply.
