No, it's not a song about changing a light bulb... ::)
it's about regrets when you let someone go and realise it was a mistake..
If you take a listen, I thank you :) :)

In the broken light I see you again,
in the evening when the twilight is my friend,
through the shadow of a memory,
that never ends,

Broken light, helps me see,
the way things should have been
and what you meant to me,
broken dreams, fill the air,
no matter what I do,
I see you everywhere,

A fire burning in the winter of my heart,
tells the story we should never be apart,
wanna tell you that I need you,
dunno where to start,

Broken light, helps me see,
the way things should have been
and what you meant to me,
broken dreams, fill the air,
no matter what I do,
I see you everywhere,

remenice,
your last kiss,
just a fleeting moment,
now my world,
is just a memory?

Broken light, helps me see,
the way things should have been
and what you meant to me,

Not bad, good hook. I like the vocals, though I would clean them up a bit (more) with Melodyne. The picture 'broken light' is good and feels new.

- one third of the intro length is enough, perhaps add one quiet bar (this is not 'Nothing else matters', 'Metallica' are allowed to do that)
- replace the snare with something tighter / with less reverb
- in the last refrain, mix more second vocals in
- perhaps add a bar before the refrain, like a resting mini bridge
- the vocals are maybe a bit too loud
- the whole mixdown / master feels a bit overcompressed

btw, who is the sexy girl in the picture?

Hey Kev, I immediately liked the sound effect on the opening acoustic guitar, and also the crispness of the acoustic strumming once it comes in... sounds like great attack on these.  The chorus lifts off very nicely too - especially as you lift the main melody up into a higher register.  Two more aspects that stuck out for me were 1) the disappearance of the percussion in the second chorus - clever!  Counterintuitive, but it works because that nice crisp acoustic carriers the rhythm, and 2) the unexpected ending, just when you think it is going to come back and go massive, the song ends and leaves you wanting more.  I think this is my favourite of the ones of yours I have heard so far.
It's all too beautiful.

Kev,
Liked the intro picking and chords, and the lively chorus, which is really, rally catchy.
The drums and acoustics play really well together. A your vocals of course.
I think your singing should be a bit more upfront in the mix and I'd like a bit of electric which I think is in there in the chorus?
Nice one
 :)

Yo Kev.

Sounds great to me man. I agree with Neil, the vocals are just a little too quiet, but not by a whole heap.

Great imagery invoked by the lyrical content. Lovely acoustic guitar sound.

Once again, your ending took me by surprise! Maybe that's just a thing of mine.  :D

A lovely piece that gets better with each listen.

Right up there with your best, Kevin...which is quite an altitude.

Acoustic strumming was a highlight for me...showed great fluency and timing which not everyone can manage.

An excellent listen  :)

Lovely tight work on the acoustics! Not easy to get them sounding that good as well, in my experience.

Thought maybe the drum fills were bit aggressive in places, perhaps.

Certainly up the high standards I expect from you Kev.

Great work!

The hit factory that is otherwise known as Shadowfax continues. I am amazed by your quality output Kev. So many nice little touches in this one, lovely acoustics and the drop out section is excellent. Bit surprised by the ending but that's what endings are for  :) Excellent  (Again)  :)

Greats song matey,

Think everyone else has said most things, Acoustic and vocal nice, tight playing, that acoustic really keeping the track timing together and locking it in.

IMHO I would have added an slight electric distortion guitar in behind in places (or chorus) to add a bit of mids, just to fill out the sound. But hey, thats just me, Not knocking the track at all.

Sounding great chap.

Hi Kevin,

I'm with pompeyjazz - how do you do it?

I love this sort of melancholy material. Strong lyrically and your production and playing are faultless as always. I would like the vocals much louder as if you were singing in my ear rather than from across the room. Loved the "fire burning in the winter of my heart" phrase - that's the sort of writing that sets a song apart from the ordinary.

Wonderful

What a lovely ballad Kevin.
Your attention to detail is amazing!
No nits from this nitty neck o' the woods.

Good song - well performed and produced.  ;D ;D

Have listened to this track a few times over the past week or so, mainly because I really like it!

The lyrics are heartfelt and find a way to convey an oft trodden path in an original way. Then, the expression and emotion in your voice bring it up to top drawer level. As others have said, bump up the voice slightly in the mix.

I guess it's a synth playing that intro / main backing? Sounds great, and if I am right, would love to know the patch/synth used  ;)

This is a fantastic song.

A lot of class as ever Kevin.

I know you're nuts about the 80s usually but this reminded me more of the 70s somehow....one of those more melodic bands like The Moody Blues or Barclay James Harvest or someone. That guitar plucking...almost harplike..might have helped with that...and the vocals, melody etc...and the subdued drama reminds me of the Moodies too...

Great sound.
Take it easy.

You can check my stuff out here. Mini-album getting bigger slowly. Free download if you're poorer than me.

I love the way the drums fuse with the acoustic guitar ..its  realy like the guitarist has four arms and is playing guitar and drums at the same time... its like a new intrument -drums that you strum!

it definitely follows your unique ear lotion formula of catchy tune + unrequited love + luxury production..you should release it in a tube!  :)

Its very classy... tho I thought your voice was a bit low in places?
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)
