A little more than year ago Johan (aka Jambrains) approached Karen for some vocals on one of his tracks but even at that early stage, the collaboration quickly became much more than that with a back and forth of lyric writing and suggestions that had an ease about it that surprised both of us.
Our communications were fun, easy and large in volume...

Anyway, song followed song followed song and each creation felt "ours" regardless of who had written the song and tiring of the complication of working out who's featuring whom, we're are now delighted to cement the partnership and plan release all future collaborations under the band name Ashes for Dreams

So exactly one year from the release of Lie with Me please find the very first Ashes for Dreams song Love Gone Cold

And for those of you with limited bandwith
https://soundcloud.com/ashesfordreams/love-gone-cold

All the usual social media links are in the sig below, a like, a follow and such (obviously) very much appreciated.

LYRICS
Verse 1:
The thought of living life alone
Of rattling round here on my own
You know it frightens me
You say your words meant nothing
So tell me why you said them
Please enlighten me

Pre-chorus
You said we'd last forever
Took my hand and promised never to let go
So tell me what has changed for you
Cos how can I be better if I don't know

Chorus:
I'm standing in the ashes of a love gone cold, a love gone cold,
I didn't even know the fire had died, a love gone cold,
You wanted me to love you more, not cast you aside
This is not the dream that I was sold

Verse 2:
You're right I fell so hard for you
I spoke about our future with such confidence
I knew that I could bare my soul
Unleash all of my demons without consequence

Pre-chorus:
But fear has taken hold of me
Turned me into someone you don’t know
I refuse to drag you down with me
I had to turn the other way to let you go

Chorus:
I'm standing in the ashes of a love gone cold, a love gone cold,
I didn't even know the fire had died, a love gone cold,
You wanted me to love you more, not cast you aside
This is not the dream that I was sold

M8:
Can’t you see I’ll love you still my dear
You might have turned from me but I’m still here
I’ll be the sun to melt that icy fear
You’ll be alright if I can hold you near

Too late my love, too late for me to stay
It wasn’t me who took your hand that day
I’m sorry for believing I could change
You can’t love an illusion anyway

Chorus:
I'm standing in the ashes of a love gone cold, a love gone cold,
I didn't even know the fire had died, a love gone cold,
You wanted me to love you more, not cast you aside
This is not the dream that I was sold

Yo Johan and Karen.

This is a lovely, easy going melding of musical styles, though I believe this is more folk than rock. You'll need to watch the woman Johan, she'll take over and you'll be her Shane Magowan to her Kirsty McColl.  :D  Love the song from first to last.

Hi Johan and Karen,

Can see why you became a group.

Your vocals compliment each other very well.

As per Jambrains your guitar playing is excellent.

Great ballad, has a very natural Country sound.

Thx for this song

Phew!  When I read the lyrics for some reason I was expecting a dark Gothic number and didn't expect I'd like it (your band name also sounded like a Goth Rock band to me)... but actually thought it was great in this folky slightly trad style.  Really nicely produced and I agree your voices go together super well.  Great acoustic guitar playing.  Looking forward to more Ashes for Dreams songs.
It's all too beautiful.

Hey hey! What a lovely track! I agree that your vocals compliment each other well and this is a great first track for the band...more to come I hope :) (well, I'm sure there is...)

The lyrics are very well written. The verse are a great set up for the chorus that follows and I really really enjoyed the chorus. So upbeat and happy sounding despite the less than happy meaning to the lyrics.

The guitar playing is great and off off and away it goes at the end - some impressive playing and a fun way to end the track. Big thumbs up from me.

All the best, Darren

Congrats on officially forming a band! Thats exciting, the thought of forming bands still excites me like it did when I was a teenager :)
This is beautifully played & recorded & of course I love the way a vocal duet is able to tell a story so much better than just one voice
The rough & the smooth voices are obviously your signature sound aswell which I like a lot,
& as you are now Ashes for Dreams I guess this must be your signature song from the chorus lyrics..
I didnt like it quite as much as the other songs youve done together tho , melodically it wasnt quite so catchy
The country ending was a great touch
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

@Skub: yes, this is more folk than rock for sure, not quite sure what is happening to me, one of these days I may even end up with a Tele....Next song is in the works and it will be nothing like Love Gone Cold...  ;D

@Movin Flavor: thanks for your very kind words!

@PaulyX: thanks for taking the time to listen and comment!

@Darren1664: glad you liked it, thanks for taking the time, much appreciated.

Hi Guys and congrats on the new band.
I liked this one - solid lyrics and as others have said, the vocals compliment one another nicely.
Seems like a song that would happen when good artists are just getting together musically, so I look forward to where the music takes you  ;D

Hi Johan. Congratulations on your new venture. Sounds like it's going to be interesting. This had a lovely melodic feel to it with some attitude thrown in. Reminded me in some ways of Sean McGowan and Kirsty McColl. Smashing stuff guys  :)

highly accomplished sounds and lovely production

i thought the drums went a bit weird around 2:30 which i thought skewed the direction of the track a little ...and then again towards the end...i wonder if a more straight drum track would have suited the genre better? having said that, it's not a genre i know very little about...it was just my gut instinct.

congratulations on your new venture...i'm sure it will be very productive!

Nice work, a bit more folky than I'd usually listen to but enjoyable all the same.

There's lots to hold interest her from both the melody and the arrangement, with the instruments and voices blending nicely.

On the kind of mid 8 and outro sections where the bass plays root and 5th back and forth, I'm wondering whether a slightly more staccato approach to the bass would be more complimentary? Just a thought.

Good work both.

Nice one, I heard Johans voice on a soundcloud tune and it turned out to be this one.
Pretty guitars and a nice mix of vocals
Good chorus too.
Neat tune

@Paulski: thanks for the listen & kind words!

@pompeyjazz: thanks for taking the time to listen & comment. The McGowan / McColl comparison is very flattering, thanks!

@PaulAds: thanks! I have no clue about the genre either but the drums has been commented on from several sources, some like them, some not. A matter of personal prefs I guess.

@Yodasdad: intresting idea re the bass, never really occured to me, the current bass line just came naturally to me and I must admit I did not pay much attention to it after that. Something to think about in the future. Guitars/drums I work with a lot but the bass gets less attention from me.
Thanks!

@NielC: Thanks, glad you enjoyed it  :)

Your voices blend together so nicely that it makes perfect sense that you joined forces. Nice one! Lovely stuff.
