Hi
Well John and I agreed to do something and it just sat there till i go this PM which said
"Was walking the dogs on the beach this morning and this came to me..." and then next thing I'm doing is reading the first verse of this psychedelic eco comic story!

Well to cut a long story short we had some fun and cobbled this together, and then threw the kitchen sink in for go measure. Like all good songs it took on a life of its own and we're proudly here to present it to the forumites for your delectation or otherwise.  https://soundcloud.com/neilconnor-2/b-bill-nc-master-24-april-2017

So please have a listen and give us your thoughts and suggestions

:-) Neil and John

Syd read an article about the oldest living barnacle
Just arrived upon our shore on a current from abroad
Totally unstable, was dissected on a table
They then attached a label and locked the door

Now Syd’s a Reporter and drank more than he oughta
Saw Marine Science Sal across the bar
One hell of a gal. A drink? Yes what the hell!
She started to tell the story he knew quiet well

We're so interconnected and if you inspected you’d see
All living things in air, on land and sea
And as to Darwin's dance, we can't leave it all to chance
All living things in air, on land and sea
That's why Bill's important to me

She asked for another (would he’d be her lover?)
“Was Barnacle Bill, the last of his kind?
He wanted to see, did she have the key?
Needless to say, sex wasn’t on his mind

Indestructible Bill, had been lying there still
With one single thought on his mind
He knew he didn’t want to be, maybe very famously
The last of his kind or his line

We're so interconnected and if you inspected you’d see
All living things in air, on land and sea
And as to Darwin's dance, we can't leave it all to chance
That's why Bill's important to me

Sal downed and she fumbled, Syd though they were rumbled
When they noisily entered the lab
Then she saw the label, unattached on the table
The drink must have gone to her head

Bill chewed through the tag and fell to the ground

He looked for a drain and the rain sluiced him down
Like Tom Cruise via the mains to the sea

Just to add to what Neil has already said, this was an absolutely great song to work on which took on a life of his own. Huge respect to Neil for developing the story, putting up with the multiple ideas that I sent him and producing such a mega mix  :) Oh, and top, top guitar   :) I grew quite attached to Bill during the development of this song or should I say he grew attached to me  :)

This is just great, fellas...the best elements of both of your considerable talents brought together into a song that's fun, clever, thoughtful, with great instrumentation, super vocals and a knockout chorus.

Absolutely top drawer!

What a chorus.  Awesome production too (esp the backing vocals and the occasional horns give it that Beatlesy quality).  Exactly the kind of psychedellic epic I love.  I thought you could psyche it up even more in the choruses if you wanted to ... some backwards guitar / sitar etc?
It's all too beautiful.

Neil and John.

WOW.  :o

Epic is a much overused word, but in this case it's well justified.

This is a marvellous piece of work. I always love the sound Neil gets on his guitars, very warm and rich.

The vocals and harmonies are spectacularly Beatlish and I love the way they interweave and compliment the whole song. Cool, whacky take on the subject matter too.

Outstanding,fellas. Respect is due.  8)

aww somebodys already said 'epic', so Im going to go for 'wondrous & whopping!'
What a song, & yes it has attached itself to me!
It starts of like a spy film theme song, but lyrically it would make a great episode of Spongebob... :)
Anyway the vocals are superb & the arrangements are a delight & very clever...
Altho tbh I wasnt keen on the Beatleness of it ...i mean I love the Beatles but Ive heard them to death & I tend to turn off when I hear them now ..
Neil I wasnt at all sure about the guitar at 3.13 it didnt sound at all right? but everything else was perfect!
People accuse me of writing wacky lyrics but these are in a class of there own, particularly when I heard Sal was going to have sex with a barnacle to keep Bills species alive!
omg, thankfully I read it wrong!
Anyway i cant wait to see the film with Tom Cruise playing the barnacle!  ;D

Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

All the best,

This proves that a collab is greater than the sum of its parts.
You've both done a crack-up job - is crack-up a word?
I like the melody lines and as others have said good chorus.
All round great performance by all involved  ;D ;D
But I wouldn't be paulski if I didn't whine a little about the length.
I've got such a short attent... uh, what was I saying?

I did not see that coming! The whole thing is a feast of interest. I really don't like story songs (too country) or animal songs (too Octopus's Garden) or environmental songs (too Neil Young) but this had me gripped till the end to see what unlikely twist it was going to take and sure enough there was TC... I really did not see that coming either.

And I loved all the kitchen sink that you threw in...

And it might even just about qualify under the competition rules - dammit!

Well...I have to say very well done. I think this track is brilliant.

The lyrics and the story I thought were fab. I found that they really drew me in and I was as interested in the story of the lyrics as I was the music going on around them. The music supported the lyrics beautifully and I really enjoyed the guitar solo (it is a fab fab solo...the phrasing ties in so nicely to the rest of the song).

With that said...it was the chorus that really hooked me. It was great in contrast to the verses.

Well done to you both for this!!

Man, where do I start, this is killer!

I like full on, kitchen sink productions and this delivers.

Great lyrics, melody, harmony, playing, imagination...this just works really well.

Love the chorus...although I couldn't stop singing 'Our house, is a very very very fine house' over the first line each time.

It's on the long side but it doesn't feel like it, it fills the time well and holds attention.

Great collab guys.

Well I can't avoid the Beatle Comparison either.....

They were great at

Cool lyrics
Merging different sections of songs
And harmonies....

...just like this song.

Great song
