Every sports station these days crams dozens of betting adverts into each commercial break. One of the most annoying recently concerned the "gang" of Ladbroke lads who had a right old wheeze while cheerfully accumulating dosh at incredible odds. Of course it all took place on their mobile phone, usually while they were on their way to the pub or the footie or embarrassing some girls.

This song is about that.....

I'm not going to be so regular on the forum for a while so I do apologise if I don't contribute as much as usual but I've got some important life stuff on at the moment

Enjoy  :)

The Lad Broke Life

Well he's on to a winner
And it runs every night
It makes your wallet considerably thinner
But he won it back on the superstar fight

You live the life
It's easy day or night
Although you haven't won a thing
Don't tell you're wife
Your little secrets safe until
You sold the platinum ring

Well he's on to a winner
And it runs every night
It makes your wallet considerably thinner
But he won it back on the superstar fight

Same every day
But that's the price you've have to pay
Those guys just know you'll get it straight
Just blown away
Bad luck is really here to stay
Your big winner before it's too late

So they say this is your winning streak
Tap, tap, boom, flash
The race it was a freak !

You live the life
It's easy day or night
Although you haven't won a thing
Don't tell you're wife
Your little secrets safe until
You sold the platinum ring

Well he's on to a winner
And it runs every night
It makes your wallet considerably thinner
But he won it back on the superstar fight

For me this is Pompey Jazz right back in form - great social observation in that British style of Squeeze and Blur......Kinks etc. Super stuff  - an instant favourite.

Hope your well Jon - enjoy the break from the forum :)

Yeah...brilliant stuff John...love it!

Quintessentially English...a cliche, perhaps, but very apt.

Love the melody and fab harmonies with your voice sounding as great as ever...wry lyrics too that capture the mood perfectly...love the production. Drums are a bit Keith Moon in places, though  :D

The forum will be a poorer place until you're back firing on all cylinders.

Much love, respect and very best wishes to you and Jean x

I'll add my voice to the appreciation for the great (late sixties sounding to me) melody and the harmonies, which I always love. And the lyrics flow and work well.

I noticed one thing in the lyrics--and maybe I am just not getting the intent--this line: "You sold the platinum ring". The whole song is in the present tense...except this line, which is suddenly, and briefly, in past tense. I would have expected it to say "You sell the platinum ring." Perhaps I am not getting the point?

Anyway, that's all I saw. And I hope everything goes well with your off-line distraction.

Definitely, a 60's Brit-rock vibe going on, here.  I like the performances, especially the Backing vocals add...very bright stuff!
Good stuff!

I've got poor internet access, I listened to your song on my phone without headphones
really liked it.
As with all I've heard from you there's a lot of good things going on.
A ten track album from you would be a treat.

I hope you get your life siuation sorted without too much stress.
Youu'll be missed.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

And there you have it.

Thanks all, and as I consider a lot of you guys on here to be genuine freinds, I'm actually doing an intensive haemodialysis at home training course for Mrs PJ. Mr Rightly, let me have your address and there's a 19 track cd in the post  :)

Hey John,

Great song! love the vibe - very British and very cool  I was also getting a hint of Harrison on the vocals.

It addresses a subject that needs a light shone on it for a variety of reasons imho, well done for that too!  :)

I hope everything goes well at home. As others have said you'll be missed 'round here.

I know when I first posted on here I was terrified but you made me feel welcome from the 'get go'

All the best  :)

Yo Pomps.

There's a kind of 60s vibe going here,a Wilbur's/Searchers cross.

I think you could write a song about absolutely anything John, mister inventive you are!

On the production side of things,I wasn't mad keen on the bass panned to the left, plus it seemed to be very hot and breaking up at times.

That aside an entertaining listen,as ever.

I hope you get the personal stuff sorted John,I'll not be the only one to miss you from the forum, that's for sure, but life/family comes first.

Best wishes John and hurry back.  :)

Top song John, very 'Squeezy'. Definitely a George Harrison feel to the vocals too! Excellent stuff, hope you get your home stuff sorted......

Love the lyrics and the happy shiny mood, yes, their life is so much better than mine!

Production sounds great - yes some adventurous drumming but totally in keeping with the song. Not sure if any automation on your vocal as it sometimes seemed a bit swamped and would be good to hear all the lyrics crystal clear.

But small beans. And actually it's all small beans compared to real life so hope you and Mrs PJ get through it OK.

I just started singing along to this whilst making a cup of tea. This is also a true British classic. Love it. Lyrics, melody, harmony and accompaniments all working together to a tea. (Boom boom)
My sotm so far too. Fab. Just fab.

Nice fun track, as people have said with a very British sound.

There's a lot going on to hold the interest and some nice guitar work in there.

Occasionally the vocal felt a little bit buried in the busier parts but nothing major.

Good work Pomps.

Best of luck with your training and to the wife.
