Hi All,

Looking for information.

Do you know who reviews and buy lyrics they like? I got lyrics but they aren't to music. It just lyrics I am interested in selling to an interested party.

Please help?

In this day and age I think you would have zero chance selling lyrics

If you want to try to make money from lyric writing your best bet would be to find a musician to collaborate with

Even then your chance of making money is very slim and the normal process is VERY long and drawn out (e.g. Finding a publisher that likes your song, then finding an artist/manager who likes your song enough to record, then for the label agree to release it, then for it to actually sell)

There is rarely any money up front so you don't actually "sell" anything but you effectively licence it and get a proportion of the income from sales (often many years later)

Writing for TV and Film can speed this process up a bit but only if you have songs completed to a "broadcast"/ "radio ready" quality

Yanni,

It might be worth sticking round the forum, posting some lyrics and seeing if any of the members would be interested in collaborating.  Arguably, writing songs that are commercial is very different to writing good, well rounded songs. In the commercial camp, the lyrics are probably  the least important thing.  How else do we explain the likes of Duran Duran, Adam and the Ants, Keith Harris and Orville? Granted, the best songs have great lyrics but, in the mass market commercial arena, the pure lyricist is bottom of the food chain. If you're looking to make money, Boybie's spot on, find a collaborator; that way you have a song to pitch rather than lyrics. Also, peer review is always a helpful process.

It should happen, but it doesn't really! if i was band or artist , even a publisher and could secure the rights to the better lyrics ,with the purpose of making them into full songs , and the price was right , why not?
