I've tried putting a melody to this lyric, but it doesn't really work for me.  Anyone want to collaborate?

Walk Away

I was born to be a liar
I was born to be a thief
Nothing more than a footprint in the sand
That the waves come washing over
And that slowly fade away
I hope one day that you will understand

That I tried a different melody
And I tried a different chord
But the tune I wrote just sounded out of key
And when the song was over
And the crowd looked at their feet
I knew that I could never change
And that I'd have to set you free.

Chorus:
Turn away, turn away, turn away
Leave me be, why won't you turn away
Walk away. walk away, walk away
Leave me be, just walk away

Well I was never on the right side
Cos I was always in the wrong
But no-one ever tried to understand
I just needed some attention
And when nothing came my way
I wrote it out in bold among the footprints in the sand

Wash away, wash away, wash away,
Leave me clean, why don't you wash away
Walk away, walk away, walk
Leave me be, why don't you wash away

Well I guess I'll hit the road again
And I'll drift from town to city
You said I never cared enough to change
Well with every step I take, my dear,
the pain just cuts me harder
I hope one day you'll realise how much it hurt to walk away

Walk away walk away, walk away
Leave me be, why don't you walk away
Walk away walk away, walk away
Leave me be, why can't you walk away

Hi Mike.   Vocal melodies come pretty easy to me, and this one is BEGGING for a melody as I read it.

I won't attempt anything but an a-capella melody because it's almost certain you're a better musician than I am.  (I think I remember reading in one of your posts that you actually understand chord progressions etc.)

Let me know if that is acceptable, and I can knock this out in an hour.

Hi Mike

I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of putting some music to your lyrics (which I really like !)

You can have a listen here... https://soundcloud.com/ejomusic/walk-away

Would appreciate your honest feedback.

Thanks

Hey Ed

It sounds to me like your guitar and vocal are too close together if you know what i mean, your guitar is an instrument so too is your vocal, let them do their own thing  8)

Thanks for the feedback oldbutyet

I think I know what you mean. I think the guitar is too in sync with vocal and perhaps less will work better.

I'll play around with it.

I must say that I disagree completely

I think you have done an amazing job setting those wonderful lyrics to music!

It sounds like the music & lyrics were written for each other and I would NEVER have guessed that the music was added after the lyrics were written

The overall performance and song sound AMAZING and it is a FANTASTIC vocal performance that really communicates the emotion of the lyric

I can hear a full production of this song in my head and it could be very modern pop/rock sounding with commercial potential IMHO

I think this is an AMAZING Collab and definitely the type of music I would enjoy listening to

Great work Ed, and I love what you've done with the words. You've definitely made the song yours.

Boydie and Mike

Thank you both so much for your feedback.

Boydie - You've certainly inspired me to take the track to the next stage of the process. I look forward to sharing version 2!

Mike - I'm delighted that you feel I've done justice to your wonderful lyrics. If you have any more "spare" lyrics, I'd be only too happy to try and add some music.

Hi Ed, absolutely love it. I could hear from the first version that you were on to something, but this version absolutely nails it. Boydie's right, I could see this doing really well. More lyrics coming you way for sure.
