This is one of my very early lyrics. I tried to record it a few years ago, but without much luck, and I'm toying with the idea of having another go.  Thought I'd get a view on the lyrics first though. It's effectively about suicide, set to a backdrop of Greek mythology.  Storm clouds, but no rain in this one.

I'd forgotten the origin for this, but it just came back.  I was planning to create a short film called "The Keeper", which was about an otherworldly being who's job it was to collect and look after the souls of people who'd committed suicide.  I did a bit of test filming with a friend at a local beach and that kind of sparked the idea for the lyric. Suffice to say, I didn't get round to making the film, but the test film survives on youtube:

Mike

Don’t Look Back

Summer days spent by the sea
Days of childhood memories
Don’t look back
Time passed by and how you’ve grown
Medusa turned your heart to stone
Don’t look back

Don’t think of the bad times, not the sorrow, not the pain
Think of the good times that you had along the way
But don’t look back to the sea

You hear voices on the breeze
Orpheus plays sweet melodies
Don’t look back
Storm clouds gather up above
As sirens sing you songs of love
Don’t look back

Don’t think of the bad times, not the sorrow, not the pain
Think of the good times that you had along the way
But don’t look back to the sea

As you look towards the sea
You feel a sense of liberty
Don’t look back
And as you sink into your bed
Sirens swimming overhead
Don’t look back

Don’t think of the bad times, not the sorrow, not the pain
Think of the good times that you had along the way
But don’t look back to the sea

Mark of Cain
story / song / poem (where I borrow from the bible and from Shakespeare)

This text of yours is better (i.m.o.)

great you're here. I really enjoyed reading this - I think I got ideas -Riffs- almost immediately.

Thanks for posting
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

And there you have it.

Love the references to Greek mythology - interestingly I've also had a sea-based suicide song half written for a while... Maybe I should finish that up

From what I read the meaning of "the sea" gradually changes from a place of childhood memory to death - a sense of literally drowning yourself in childhood memories and lamenting better times - am I close?

Good write

Thanks Rightly, and more than happy for you to do a take on it.  :)  I'll also check out your Mark of Cain - interesting title.

Thanks Jon.  You're spot on, and articulated far better I could have done.
