The Bully King
Copyright 2017 Tennyson Road Productions

 The sky went dark
 The city quiet
 The fateful day
 The prince arrived

 He skewered rivals
 Spewing hate
 While others seemed
 To gravitate

"Line up!
 Line up!
 To kiss the ring
 Of His Majesty
 The Bully King!"

 No-one dared
 Stand in his way
 And sycophants
 All sang his praise

"Take no prisoners!
 Give no ground!"
 Soon the prince
 Adorned the crown

 Line up!
 Line up!
 To kiss the ring
 Of His Majesty
 The Bully King!

 Hail! Hail!
 The Bully King!

{br}
And gone were all the butterflies
The smaller birds no longer fly
And gone were all the freedom flags
 Gone..

 The wisest men
 Cannot predict
 What futures flood
 Our lives with risk

 The circus clowns
 Are on the stage
 But we'll protect their right
 To say..

 Line up!
 Line up!
 To kiss the ring
 Of His Majesty
 The Bully King!

 Hail! Hail!
 Come kiss his ring!

 Hail! Hail!
 The Bully King!

Paul,
All good here, got it!. Succinct and reads really well.
Kind of had a Disney cartoon imagery in my mind when I read it.

Heh, heh, heh, heh.

Loved it.  Loved it a lot.

I'd have named it the "B.S. King" but I understand why you didn't.  ;o)

It's cool Paul,a bit of a thought provoker with a certain
amount of wit.
I think it flows along just nicely,it hit the spot,

Hey Paul,

Great, lyrics I'm a fan of the short snappy lines, and enjoy your variation on rhyming between the verses.

They looks really fun, and think it will be more interesting when you come to make music out of them.

Almost comes across to me like it will be more speaky to me, like it will have some simple but moody music and be told like a story. (Almost like Gorillaz "Fire Coming Out of a Monkey's Head" - somewhere between the talking and the singing).

Wondering how you'll approach the quoted sections too, second vocalist, different production, different vocal approach?

Anyway think I'm getting carried away on how this will sound as music, rather than the lyrics themselves. Think my point is that interesting lyrics can make for interesting songs; and the fact this one has my curiosity going can only be a credit!

Cheers,
Scott.

Nice punchy lyrics that hit the spot. Love the near rhymes and it flows really well.

Can't get a melody in my head, but that's nothing new, I can't get melodies for most of my own lyrics.

Look forward to hearing it set to music.

Good work...

  Hi Paul,
Not sure who you're aiming at here, who the bully king is. Is it trump? or just anyone with a big stick. Interesting though, and the refrain is just stellar. Thought provoking write.

I could imagine Don McLean writing something like this many years ago.  He did some quite quirky stuff on his albums with wonderful imagery.  This one reads well and I look forward to hearing it set to music.

Hi Paulski,

I was hoping the clowns were going to be subversive in the bridge and was a bit disappointed they weren't.

Good set of lyrics nonetheless.

Hey Paul,

Strong feeling to these lyrics, the message within them will reverberate with many (sane) people  :)

I believe they would lend themselves to many different styles/genre.

All pretty good stuff particularly, for me, this...

Quote
No-one dared
 Stand in his way
 And sycophants
 All sang his praise

looking forward to the music...

Sorry to bump - just realized I hadn't thanked anyone :(

@Neil C - thanks Neil - yes Disney is a good way of describing it - the clowns have taken over!

@PopTodd  - cheers - the crazy has just started IMHO.

@hardtwistmusic - thanks Verlon - glad you liked it.

@11 - huh? but thanks, I guess..

@tomcrocus - Tom - and you know about flow so I thank you for that comment :)

@ScottLevi - cheers Scott. So glad you're thinking of music - that's what it's all about. I'm thinking Rock or Metal ...

@Arkwright - cheers Steve - long time no see - you need to post some lyrics man - show us how it's done! :)

@Vintage54 - Trump? Trump who? heh heh Thanks for the encouragement. But as my Mom used to say "don't encourage him - he'll just get worse!"

@igg - thanks igg - it's weird watching this from Canada isn't it?

@mikek - cheers - I have an idea for the chorus but beyond that it's an empty page.

@Wicked Deeds - thanks Paul - I love Don McLean btw

@diademgrove - thanks Keith - interesting idea for the bridge. maybe I'll watch what happens - this might write itself in the end :)

@boolio - thanks Phil - lots of sycophants around him for sure..

Hope I didn't miss anyone - thanks again
Paul
