(Apologies, didn't mean to bump the lyrics as well as the finished song! Sorry!)
Update - many thanks to everyone who voted for this in SOTM and now you can hear the track with its added prizes - drums from the stupendous Righteous Recordings and mixing and mastering from the ever patient and openminded BOYDIE!

Really pleased with the way it's turned out! Thanks everyone.

Hi All - you know those films where the nerdy guy likes the impossibly hot girl and they are thrown together by an alien invasion/natural disaster/other implausible but cinematic event? Here's a little attempt at a reminder that real life isn't like that...

I seem locked in a teenage angst period at the moment. Wonder what that means...

The Most Normal Thing

V1
I know that I am good enough for you
Together I know you and I'd be great
But being good enough doesn't seem to be
Enough to make you notice me
Sometimes I'd like a little help (from fate)

CH
But the most normal thing is that nothing will happen
The most normal thing is that it's all up to me
The most normal thing is that nothing will happen

BRIDGE
Our flight probably will arrive
With all the others still alive
Transformers won't invade the earth
And you won't kiss me first

V2
All I need is time with you alone
If you get to know me you won't find me odd
Because I never speak out loud
I just don't stand out from the crowd
Sometimes I'd like a little help (from god)

CH

BRIDGE/M8
Our ship won't hit the ocean floor
With just us two washed ashore
We won't get tied up on a chair
And you'll still think I'm square

You won't need saving from the flames
Or protecting from the rain
Dinosaurs won't run amuck
And I can't trust to luck

FINAL CH

This is just perfect. I love the subject matter. I have no nits. I think the bridge is my favorite part. I hope you'll be setting this to music.

Hi Adam

Really well structured lyric IMHO.
Great hook and nicely placed in the song.
My only thought was in this line:

Quote
But the most normal thing is that nothing will happen

I'm thinking - something will happen - but it won't be a "hook up" - so maybe sth like:

Quote
But the most normal thing is likely what will happen

But I could be FOS so ignore at will  ;D.

Thanks Paul - that got me thinking (as always).

Really the concept is "nothing will (just) happen (by itself)" or "nothing (out of the ordinary) will happen." But maybe that's a lot to imply!

I will ponder!

Very Well Written.

Reminds me of a lyric I wrote nearly thirty years ago.  I'll send it to you in a p.m.

I suspect it will interest you.  It's about the same situation you describe and is vaguely autobiographical.

Overall I think this is great stuff. I especially like how you compare the likelihood of something happening to crazy events.

I just have a question to help me understand it better. It seems your verses deal with you as in "I", but the bridges deal with you and whoever this song's about on a flight/ship. To me this is a bit confusing as "I" implies you are separate from, and observing, the person the song is about, but the bridges seem to imply that you two are on the same flight/ship (the journey of life?) so for me the it's a bit confusing. It seems very deliberate so I'm sure it's meant to be this way?

  Hello Adam,
Great write man, bloody great write. Love the angle, really smart. Looking for faults, but i can't find em. What more can i say, but nothing. The only thing that this song needs is a thumbs up, and you get it from me, love it.

Adam,
Ignoring the psychology bit about returning to your youth, I get the concept between the verses and for me the more interesting fun stuff on the bridge. I think the chorus is a bit flat especially as you repeat lines 1 &3.  I'd like 4th line which ties up with your movie angle and rhymes with happen to lift it.
Just a thought
 :)

I half heard this while leaving the house
and later I remembered it badly

the song is really good, and I don't think it needs any changes

I couldn't place the song and vaguely thought it might be a morrissey song
but the refrain had changed
in my head I had,

"The most awful thing is that nothing will happen
the most awful thing, it's all down to me"

For me that's (with my alteration) more memorable (for me), but like I said, your song is a really good one
and I don't think it needs changes.

Best popsong I've heard in a long, long time.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

Don't eat the yellow snow

And there you have it.

That made me smile, Rightly! Of course Morrissey and I are twins of a different mother... but actually when hopelessness becomes the normal thing isn't that even more depressing than when it's just an awful thing?  :D ???
