I'm moving this from lyrics to WIP, as I'm at a point of needing input on the melody. I have a draft posted here: https://soundcloud.com/caliamoko/candles-light-the-way/s-oPtwD.

What you'll hear is the entire first verse followed by the first part of the verse sung one way, a break, then a second way.

The part that has me wondering is the phrase "tiny flames". Is one way better than the other?

What you'll hear is:

Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo. We are guided by such tiny flames.
As they illuminate those treasured names.
We walk around the track and read the mem'ries there.
And after ev'ry lap we say a little pray'r.
Candles light the way.

Thanks,
Vicki

I prefer the second version (at 1:45 ish), it sounds more natural. Nice tune BTW.

Hello!
I like your song but it feels like you rush the lyrics a bit.
Have you tried it in a slower tempo?

Your voice is filled with emotion ans the lyrics are too so I
don't think it will get slow and boring if it's played in a lesser tempo.

I look forward to hear further progress

I think the second way where it goes up instead of down. This gives the feeling of leading you into the next line....leaves it up in the air a bit, whereas going down brings the line more to an end and you're starting from scratch on the next line..... if you see what I mean.

Depends on which effect you're after.
Take it easy.

You can check my stuff out here. Mini-album getting bigger slowly. Free download if you're poorer than me.

Thank you, Steng, Martinswede, and VC. The more I go over it, the more I agree the second way is best.

I'm hoping to finalize the words, at least for now, today and get this recorded and posted in Finished Songs.

This forum (I'm sure I've mentioned this before) is so great as a place to bounce ideas around to help come up with a much better version of a song than I could ever manage all on my own.
