Hello everybody, I hope you are all well and have not missed me too much (if any of the old guard are even still here?  :-\ )

I used to frequent these parts, sadly not so much these days... family, work, DIY commitments etc..

but stuck in traffic mostly... :D  Hence the little ditty..

I cant find my mic and my guitar is packed away, this was actually recorded in a traffic jam, flippin' hate London  >:(

London Town

Another ordinary day,
Sun came up same old way,
and the ordinary people, go to work same delays.
On the radio a song, they been playing far too long,
with the hum drum beating on,
all the new ideas are gone.

In London Town,
Where it always gets me down,
Face is buried in a frown,
In London town.

Another coffee Costa-lot
In spite of everything we've got
caffeine cant replace the pillow,
and my neck is full of knots
Same old 9 to 5 we're not quite dead
but not alive
ever ever treading water,
let me know when we arrive...

In London Town,
Where it always gets me down,
Face is buried in a frown,
In London town...

Hiya. As I live in London (currently) I can relate to the lyrics here on show especially after the tube strikes of this week! Like the spontaneous and sparse nature of the recording.

Micky.

Hi John,

Well this is different.

I'd just add some of your acoustic, keep the background traffic noise and the slightly "filtered" effect sounding vocal. Works a treat.
The vocal is as good as ever. Nice melody.

Good to hear you again. Hope you are  for a while.

Excellent.  Reminiscent of Bowie's "Please Mr Gravedigger" - great lyrics.  Love the voice/traffic combo - must surely be a first?  Very brave to having nothing to hide behind but the traffic.  I'm assuming you recorded it into your phone - the sound of which suits the song perfectly.

DIY's gain is our loss.

Yeah - get a bit of acoustic guitar on this and tighten up the melody here and there. It's great, feels like it's plucked from a musical.

Hi habitat,

as someone said, reminds me of early Bowie. I have a soft spot for unaccompanied songs and this hits the spot. Not sure I want to hear any acoustic guitar on it, its fine as is.

So great to hear that voice again - welcome back. Love the line about the caffeine and the pillow. This song says so much with the use of simple language. The traffic noise is a perfect accompaniment and I don't think it needs anything else. There is some vaudeville, early Kinks, early Bowie, Faces and Blur all mixed in here plus your distinctive delivery. This isn't pop music, this is art.

This is awesome - took a risk and I think it paid off. Some instrumentation behind the traffic noise would go well, I reckon.

Definitely some early Bowie in there.

Oh, btw, Samuel Johnson: 'When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life'. Easy for me to say - I don't have to deal with the traffic on a daily basis, but I love the city (all good Aussies do!!)

Hi Mr H, good to hear your voice! Bowie esque quality to this melancholy song. I think the addition of some delicate piano or strings would add to this song even though it has a quality to it as an acapella piece.
Nice one!
Cheers

Hey man! I loved this and could relate to the lyrics as I'm sure most could. Due to the way it was recorded and lack of background music I imagined it on a stage musical style..Like that tune just before the plot kicks in and the tempo changes kind of thing. Sorry if that sounds mental..just how my head works haha good job tho!
