I've recently invested in some midi drum loops from the loop loft but the vst drumkits I have either don't play (apart from the odd beat) or are generally not particularly realistic sounding. Any recommendations for drum kit vsti plugins ? Thanks guys

I am liking ADDICTIVE DRUMS 2 at the moment

EZ DRUMMER is another good option

I also use BATTERY to trigger samples for some styles

Try playing around with which hits are triggered by which notes in your DAW. The drum part might be excellent, but if only some of the hits are being played, and by the wrong parts of the kit, it's going to sound cack.

Thanks Tone. Have been messing around this afternoon and made good progress but after looking at vids on EZ drummer and addictive drums looks like I need to go for one of those

Yeah...didn't I find that a midi file in Reaper (which you use) was playing an octave out from what I was expecting...or something....in fact I've just found this

may be something.
Take it easy.

You can check my stuff out here. Mini-album getting bigger slowly. Free download if you're poorer than me.

"Drum Maps" are used to make sure your drum VST gets the right kit pieces triggered

They can be a bit of a faff to set up

Alternatively, some VSTs can be put into "general MIDI" (GM) mode, which increases the compatibility with MIDI loops

This is brilliant advice guys. Some vsts seem to work while others just play the odd note. I'm guessing its the octave thingy. Thanks once again

Well, I finally went for EZ drummer and after waiting an hour for it to download had a half hour play. Another world opens.......

Hi John

I'm late to the conversation, but it is definitely worth routing your kick, snare, hi hat etc to different tracks in your DAW, if you are not already doing so. I only stated doing this recently, but I am loving mixing my drums. Like you say, whole new world.
