Oh, my badness! This is the poster child for spooky. Everything about it screams horror, gore, suspense. I love the way the repeat of the last line of each verse shrieks on and finally fades out. Totally excellent entry in the competition.

Yesss, where is the headbanging emoticon?  ;D

So cool! Great riffs, also the bass line adds a lot to the drive and urge.

That "Route 666" title is so clever that I would have wished for it to appear sooner and more often in the song.

What a nice twist on "women and children first"  ;)

Really great stuff, Bye Wolfi

Short and not so sweet but really packs a punch.

Love the guitar riff with the descending semitones that give it that sinister edge.

Good stuff.

Loads of demonic energy in this one Paul.

I got the first few notes of paint it black too,but that's the only similarity.

I loved the rowdy, single coiled goodness of the guitars.  8)

Wow Paul!!!

Man energetic doesn't begin to cover this!!!
This thing is inexorable tank grinding everything in it's path...The guitars, bass, the wall of drums...are awesome......
Melodically, I like the lifts into the majors..giving great variety to the tone of the whole piece...
And the lyrics are very compelling...not your usual lullabies and sweet dreams lyrics :>)
This is a fabulous entry!!!

Paul,
Great title. Loved the riff, the energy and the lyrics.
Only thing I'd say is where is the BASS? Pump it up a bit please!

Hey Paul

What's not to like - can hear so many great influences in this - stones, punk, rock-a-billy - you name it. All wrapped in a spooky vibe that hits the sweet spot for this comp. Nice work!

Paul

Hi Paul, route 666 is a great title! Loved the punk feel and the minor riff is perfect for the feel of the song. Drives along beautifully. Another really good lyric from you!
Well done!

thanks very much  :)

so many kind and thoughtful comments...

musically, I really enjoyed trying something new...and it was quite liberating and great fun just to go off on one about the state of current affairs...

as some guy called Schumpeter once said...

"created by the wars that required it
the machine now creates the wars it requires"

thanks again

Why has no one thought of that title before? The riff reminded me a little of "Paint It Black" but not to the point of copying. The lyrics are excellent - no messing about and the fit with your vocal delivery and playing is pretty fine. This does what it says on the tin - it's not subtle but it has power, energy and drive. Excellent.
