This mid-60s single from a Scottish sister group is fantastic. And has an excellent guitar break from a very, very young (probably 16 years old) Jimmy Page.
that was interesting... i love jimmy pages session work....was that song realy one of the best youve heard tho?

As a composition, no not really. But, as an overall song/recording... I adore it. I love the off-time riffing and the energy and the... flat-out rock-ness of it all. A really interesting melding of styles: the mid-60s hard riffing a la early Kinks, mashed up with the girl group harmonies. So yeah... as a full presentation, it is one of my favorites.

If you want pure songwriting, let me think of another one.
How about this?
Maybe since this is a UK-based board, the song might be a bit more familiar to you all, but I promise you that most of my friends here in the States have never heard this one before.
An early composition from Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty, as The Humblebums:

ok im going to warn you listening to this will make you grab your partner uncontrollably & gasp who is that deranged being on guitar?
& yes that was my reaction when I heard it 20 years ago
my second reaction was I just have to get a guiatr with a tremolo arm
my 3rd reaction a few weeks later was why have I just spent £200!! ...when my brother told me its not a guitar its a pedal steel !
anyway it was the start of my love affair with whammy bars...

i wonder if anyone  will listen tho
