Hello all!

This is a bit of a weird one perhaps but I'm really pleased with my production on this track and I know that this forum isn't completely adverse to the odd strange track! For those of you that have heard my music on here over the years I really think it shows how I've improved my production skills. There are a few strange backwards vocally sections but I think it fits with the theme - it's about a man who stumbles across a beautiful mythical creature type thing in the forest and he falls in love with her. The backwards vocals are her floating in and out of her alien language - I hope that makes sense!

Lyrics:

He caught me scattering the ashes of a dying star,
He said I don't care what you've done just tell me who you are,
I said I'm half animal half light,
A slow death a half life,
I promise you can have me,
But you'll have to fight me first.

He said blue eyes you have,
They shine in the moonlight,
I said a decent heart you have,
So you'll never make it out of here alive...

Wow, you're right that's a bit weird - probably a little too weird for me generally but somehow I've bookmarked the page so I can relive the wild and wonderful experience again.

Considering the backward lyrics, you've left me confused to how such a seemingly song-ruining idea could be executed so elegantly and complementary to the song as a whole.

This is not really the sort of music I can give constructive feedback on as I'm pretty clueless when it comes to production - which is where this thrives - but I do really like it and it's obvious you've put a lot of work into making something really special and unique.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you for your honest and kind words. Just realised I posted in the wrong section of the forum as this is a finished piece. Apologies x

Hi,
I'm not going to lie, I wasn't expecting to like it but I absolutely love it!!
Beautifully produced and a real magical/chill out quality that I found engaging.
In my opinion it's a job well done.
Best of luck with it.
Cheers
A

Hi Alice,

definitely not weird to my ears. Hints of Bollywood with the backward vocals. I would have liked a bit more bass but that may be my system. In my head I hear the man in the lower register whilst the mythical creature soars in the treble.

Great song,

Keith

Hi Alice,

Thanks for sharing this beauty. Production is indeed perfect. I'd love to be able to mix like this :)

As I live in London, hopefully I'm going to see you performing live soon :)

Best of luck

Not quite my thing, but I like how unusual it is. The lyrics are nice too

I think this is an excellent piece of work..more a tone poem than a song but still very interesting..and definitely a good piece of production..shades of Bjork maybe....
why is it in work in progress..sounds finished to me :) :) :)

Thank you, yes I'd agree on the 'tone poem' thing. I really wanted to tell a story/create an atmosphere with this one. Thank you for taking the time to listen - particularly from those that aren't really in to this kind of thing!

Beautiful song.

Reminds me of Tori Amos and Kate Bush,  but this is a very unique style.

Like your samples and how this is all mixed.

Like the "ticking clock" sound ....how do u get it

Great vocals....

Another cool song Alice...BTW nice web-site

Hey Alice, I really like strange  :) Pushing the boundaries is what it's all about. I love the feel of this song, the production is very good. It's got a lovely dreamy surreal feel to it. Thought it was very good.

Cheers

You have a strong Cocteau twins feel to this song ,at  least to me. I think you've created a very credible song and by the other comments ,i'm not alone.

Nice stuff! A bit Kate Bushy but that's not a bad thing at all.
