Right, that's my month off done  :)  Was so busy gig-wise all year then September...nothing. So I just kind of closed down music-wise. Plus work's been busy and I've been wracking up the commuting miles on the M5. But I'm back to the gigging this weekend and thus I thought time to get back into the song-writing, too.

This is one from the WIP section. Instead of working it up into a high-tech masterpiece I've reverted to my original intentions and left it as it will be played in my local hostelries - one man and a guitar.

As usual, just a blues, but hopefully there's a little something here to maintain the interest:

In The Dog House Again

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXyEQ4AFAL4

I said the right thing, in the wrong place
Had the right name, but the wrong face
Used the right rules, played the wrong game
My baby looked at me, I'm in the doghouse again

I sang the right song, with the wrong words
Met the right guys, but the wrong girls
Made the right moves, with the wrong dame
My baby looked at me, I'm in the doghouse again

In the doghouse, the doghouse again
Doghouse, doghouse again
My baby looked at me, I'm in the doghouse again

I did the right dance, the wrong steps
Gave the right kiss, on the wrong neck
Held the right girl, whispered the wrong name
My baby looked at me, I'm in the doghouse again

In the doghouse, the doghouse again
Doghouse, doghouse again
My baby looked at me, I'm in the doghouse again

Was a good tune, with a poor refrain
All my begging, was in vain
I'll be your Jack, you can be my Jane
(Spoken) She said "My name is Sally"

In the doghouse, the doghouse again
Doghouse, doghouse again
My baby looked at me, I turned to stone
If looks could kill, I'd be gone
My baby looked at me, I'm in the doghouse again

I owe a few reviews... haven't forgotten!

Regards
Derek

Hey Del,

Very professional piece you have here.

I love the lyrics, the 'right thing/wrong thing' concept is so simple but effective and you've managed to maintain that concept and keep those near-rhymes so effortlessly.

Your guitar skills are great too, I'd really love to play the blues at some point because it looks like so much fun and it always hits me in the right spot.

The execution of "My name is Sally" then the little breakdown was absolutely fantastic and got me jigging all over the floor - this sudden change and lift back up took the whole song up a level for me.

After reading the lyrics I was hoping to hear a real gritty melody, but that huge smile and enthusiastic execution made for something very nice and easy-listening.

All the best.

Very authentic blues sound, and great guitar playing too. Your singing style compliments the style perfectly! Great stuff.

Hi,

Fabulous lyrics, brilliant picking and vocals combine to give a great performance (which you make look easy) I am loving the sound of your guitar too - really bright!

Awesome work!

Del,
Whoa, love this. Great guitar driving along and the blues bottle is fabulous.
Great concept and lyrics, all topped of with your warm vocals.
No nonsense, sure this will go down a storm live

Like the lyrics - reminds me of the song right place wrong time (Dr. John?)  but not a copy :)

Great stuff Delboy. All of these gigs that you are doing are really paying off. You look really confident and comfortable. Love the song. Like the open string stuff and the slide is excellent. Great work man  :)

You're a gifted performer but the performance may be a bit too light and zippy for the piece but that aside a damn solid country blues number. You're a talented man.
