Hi,

Here's a tune i co-wrote to Tom's wonderful wordplays lyrics whilst on holiday during the summer.

This version doesn't have cicada's all over it, and had been done in a low-fi groove, with what i hope is another interesting middle 8.

Anyway hope you enjoy and let us know what you think, and i know I owe some reviews.....

f you're just a weirdo then you're not wired up
I've been called worse but never buttercup
If you can't stand the heat then stay in the shade
Mister Lemonhead sold me lemonade

If you're just a weirdo then you're not wired up
I’ve been called worse but never buttercup
I used to buy my fags off Deborah the doll
And Father McArdle sold me alcohol

Call me what you want call me buttercup
Respect to the ones who are not wired up
I used to buy my vinyl off Dr Noise
And Mister Marratty used to sell me toys

I bought my speed off Jenny the wren
And I used to buy my weed off the flowerpot men
My bubblegum came from the candyman
And I bought my lettuce off ghandi man

Call me what you want call me daffodil
I used to buy my beef off Buffalo Bill
Call me what you want call me Mary Jane
God gave me sunshine and he gave me rain

Call me what you want call me buttercup
Respect to the ones who are not wired up
I used to buy my vinyl off Dr Noise
And Mister Marratty used to sell me toys

If you're just a weirdo then you're not wired up
I've been called worse but never buttercup
If you can't stand the heat then stay in the shade
Mister Lemonhead sold me lemonade

Call me what you want call me daffodil
I used to buy my beef off Buffalo Bill
Call me what you want call me Mary Jane
God gave me sunshine and he gave me rain

Hi Neil,

No probs listening to it here. The lyrics are off the wall and nicely written. Clever indeed.

It's almost not worth saying because as with everything you do, the arrangement, playing, instrumentation and production are always top drawer. I have to say that this is one of the best musical settings you've ever come up with. The musical interlude at 2:03 is genius and I loved the psychedelic effects just afterwards with the shifting soundscape - perfect.

The chorus to this is very strong and catchy, the verses less melodically interesting. Vocals are strong.

Overall, this is up there with your very best work and I enjoyed it very much. Such a rich and interesting track.

It plays on the pc,but not on my phone, yet everything else plays...who knows. ???

Anyway,a psychedelic track straight from 1969.

Intriguing, holds my attention all the way through. Very listenable.  :)

Great song Neil - did it go down well at The Inn? The chord sequence is great and gives a very laid-back and groovy feel to the whole song. The whole arrangement is really well put together and I really, REALLY, like the lyrics. I think it´s a modern psychadelic vibe as opposed to a 60s one and there are some very nice touches throughout - the solos, the double-tracked octave vocal and the pipes...(At least I think they´re pipes).

Really listenable - got a "love" from me!

Nice job here Neil, with a very inspired musical treatment. Great words, and the music really brings them to life.
Great collab, guys!

I seem to be latching in on that bass guitar....... ;)
Great stuff!

Hi Tom and Neil,

just had a bounce around my room listening to this. I can see the Happy Mondays in their prime singing this.

Really enjoyed listening to this one, very strong lyrical content accompanied by an understated but exciting instrumental arrangement. No real comments for improvement, looking forward to hearing more love the style.

Alan, Great feedback and delighted you enjoyed those little psychedelic excursions, just felt right with the lyrics.

Scub, not sure what's up with the phone but thanks for persevering, and you delighted you got it.

Kev, cheers and hope i never get writers block

nooms, its inspiring to write to such fun lyrics, a little bit of tweaking between me and Tom and were there

MartynRich, thanks didn't try this one although may do next time. Gotta learn the words! And the pipes are a VST of a Mellotron, mechanical precursor to the synths and made famous by Macca on Strawberry Fields Forever

Tom, neat feedback and latch away onto that bass, its a bit deeper than normal but i wanted something down and funky

Keith, bounce away my man. get the HM reference

ScottLevi, thanks for listening and commenting

And of course Tom for letting me play with it. This is the second of three songs we've co-wroting together and he's great to work with.

Hi Neil

Super soundscape and groove here.
Your mixing skills seem to get better each song.
Lyrics are clever and go great with the melody.
Strong chorus too.
A few spots in the lead vocals were flat to my ears but not sure it matters here.

Good collab guys!

Hey,

I love the grooooove !

Man, the guitars sound really gound and I like how it's placed in the mix, kinda of speaking with the bass.

What's the sound during the chorus, like choirs ? I like it.

The change of chords starting at 2:00 is very clever !

Great !!

Nono.
