Do the Right Thing

You saw that boy go down
Yeah, he was some brazen brat
Beligerent, I guess
But you did not expect
Big Jack to pull his gun
On just a kid
..unarmed

The story Jack made up
The spin that he put on
Believable, I guess
Not paid a second thought
But that switchblade he "found"
Never threatened
..anyone

Now it's time to prove you're not
Just part of the machine
And do the right thing

You waste in bed, awake
Those lies, those little snakes
Writhing in your gut
Crawling to get out
You're Dad - he's so long gone
You know what he would say:
"That price - ain't yours
..to pay"

Do the right thing
Is that blue line so thick
The truth can't cut through it?
Do the right thing

{br}
Not something that you ate
Just more o' them twisting snakes
You try flushin' them away
But more just take their place
More just take their place

Do the right thing
Is that blue line so thick
That truth can't cut through it?
Do the right thing
Do the right thing.

Paul,
Powerful set of lyrics around an important theme and the torment of lying.
Particularly liked the reference to his Dad and snakes and gut. Rings true, when caught on the horns of a dilemma.
Good work

Good job, Paul! I had to look really, really hard to find anything to nit about at all. In fact, nothing I would normally mention, but surely you're expecting something right? So..."you're dad" should be "your dad". And it will take a small amount of care to make sure the emphasis works out on the "truth can't cut through it" line.

In other words, nothing worth mentioning. I hope to be hearing this soon. ?

I couldn't ascertain the rhythm you wrote this to.

I'll have to wait for the song to hear how it flows.

Can't give much meaningful input until then.

Except that I like the concept.

I really liked this Paul,

I enjoyed reading it over a few times and letting the depth of the message and poetry sink further in.

It provoked a feeling of questioning and wanting to be one of the good people.
