Nice little number. Good theme.
I think it needs some kind of edge to it. Some kind of event.
A lot of potential though.

Respectfully, rightly.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

First impression:  very good melody; nice lilting, flowing feel; sweet

Good job!  Nice sentiment in the lyric, good vocal and guitar playing.  While the lyric is quite good I do have one suggestion......

Some people turn their backs on a brother’s hour of need
They won’t stand up for what is right, despite their brother’s plea
They won't step in and do what's right

The brother's hour of need implies an immediacy to a situation and "stepping in" comes across as more of a direct action than just standing up.  Small thing though......perspective.  (could say step up as a alternative........captures a repetitive "p" sound)

Good work, sir.

Hi Buc....thanks for listening and commenting.......I'll think about the lyrics....I don't know, however....I kinda like 'em the way they are  :-[  Thanks for the support!

Tom,

Lovely little ballad, I agree with others, shades of McCartney, especially those guitars, reminds me of Blackbirds.

A great tune to chill out to, late at night.

....kind of finishes abruptly!, but didn't mind too much, as I end up listening to "All by myself".

Sandeep

Thanks MF for listening......Big McCartney fan of his earlier music......and thanks for commenting  ;D
I hope you liked "All By Myself"  8)

Love the picked guitar at the start of this...great sound and feel you have to the whole thing. The tune is great as are the lyrics...really enjoyable listen from start to finish. Great message for everyone to heed, short and to the point but a very powerful. Great song.

Thanks so much for the encouragement, M&R.....it's appreciated! ;)

sorry tom i cant get this to play in my smashing new browser?? will try again later  :)

So sorry Tina.......I was hoping you liked it.....was that you who down loaded the tune  ???
......still hoping  ;D

Lovely! Just perfect as is.

Awesome  ;D

I'll get back later.........so darn busy!
Thanks all.............

@tinam: I feel your pain. I had to dump IE completely awhile back and use Chrome now. For things that get hung up in Chrome, I use Firefox. If that doesn't work, I'm out of luck. I always seem to muck up my computers within a few months of getting them new. :( One of these days I'm going to reformat the hard drive and start over on this one. Not till winter, though, when I have lots of time and can spend a few days somewhere with secure wifi (since my bandwidth is so limited).

And just so I'm not totally hijacking the thread...Tom! I know people exactly like that, and I think I might have to steal your song to sing one of these days. I would sing the word "empathy" slightly differently because of how I prefer to stress the syllables.

Overall, I like it! :)
Vicki

Hi Vicki............and thanks for commenting. And thanks for the "empathy" catch.......I really appreciate the prosody of it all. And you are right, I do / can annunciate it better.

I really like the pickin Tom, and your slightly raspy careworn vocals suits this perfectly. There's a great message in the lyrics as well. I really like this a lot

John

Thanks Pompy....always nice to hear from you! I appreciate it!

Hi Tom,

LOVE the guitar on this one! Has a real upbeat and happy feel to it...reminds me of some older Irish music for some reason...Makem and Clancy if you know them or are interested!

Great message in this song too...it's so true...too many people like that in the world unfortunately!

Thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks for the encourgeing crit. ( It's the only thing that motivates me anymore  ;D)

Hi Rightly............Thanks for listening and commenting.......I mostly like to write around feelings. Events, often, happen in my lyrics; but, I find, when centering on feelings, the outcome produces a more unique lyric, afterwards.  Thanks again  ;D

I loved the guitar.  I loved the "folky" feel to it.  I loved the performance.

Your songs are predictably excellent.  To be clear, it's not the song that's "predictable", it's the excellence that is predictable.

Superb guitar picking and vocals. You make this songwriting lark sound so easy and natural. You have managed to be familiar and comfortable but not derivative. The melody is lovely and the arrangement is simple but effective - right up my street.

It's a neat song theme and you take just enough time to express it and then you know when to stop.

Lovely - reminded me of JJ Cale's acoustic songs - I cannot give it higher praise.
