Hello everybody,

introducing a ska band from Finland.

We've been rehearsing ska standards for about a year, and now taking the next step into
creating songs of our own.

Most of the musicians in the band have a history in not-so-technical music like punk and simple pub rock, probably it can be heard in the performance.

The song is called Tiny Ska. We would like to get your overall feedback on it, but especially about the sound and the groove the group manages to generate. And of course on the video.

Link to YouTube video:

Tiny Ska lyrics:

Monday morning, all week ahead me
I feel tired, I need something to spice me up

Tuesday morning, feels like yesterday
I feel tired, I need something to spice me up

Tiny ska - get me going
Tiny ska - kick my ass
Tiny ska - get me going
Tiny ska - kick my ass
Tiny ska Tiny ska

Wednesday morning
Work work work work
I feel tired, I need something to spice me up

Thursday morning, almost there
I feel tired, I need something to spice me up

-chorus-

;Friday workday, Friday evening,
Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday!;

Get some beer, get some ska
Get some friends, get some ska
Get some fun, get some ska
Get some fun, get some ska
Get some fun, get some ska

hiya Brick! Love your name Brick Skatton!! its a thousand times better than the band name tiny ska... dont like that much its not big enuff
I liked the lyrics they make a good song ...except you shouldve called the band Big Boot that would fit realy well in the lyric instead of tiny ska.... Big Boot kick my ass would sound great dont cha think!  ;D
Anyway to be realy honest the music was a bit ordinary but ok I suppose ... BUT  the vocals need a lot of work !
but the video was very watchable with the amazing sky & frozen lake !!
Im thinking that with a  he man name like brick skatton you can take a bit of criticism   :)
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

Being originally from Coventry I have more than an interest in Ska. This was very interesting. I think you've got a good take on the Ska sound and it's a good song. My only criticism would be to raise the vocals or tune the EQ on them slightly. The video was very entertaining. Don't think I would fancy one of those ice baths !

Cheers

John

Hi,

and thanks for the feedback!

Yes, the name of the group is indeed Brick Skatton, and the title of our first song being Tiny Ska.

We are aware of some limitations on the vocal side, but fortunately Mr. P. Skatton is able to compensate by handsome looks and smooth dance maneuvers. We are looking for ways to improve on that field.

Mr. J. Skatton certainly took one for the team by placing himself in the water for the video.

I love Ska as well so good to see another style come to the forum. It´s the rockier kind of Ska which makes it sound a little looser than the standard but I think it comes across well. The comments about the vocals are right - they need work, although he does have personality and character to his tone.

Looking forward to hearing more!

I love me some ska and reggae, nothing better to generate a happy vibe.
I'd echo some previous comments concerning the vocals, I also thought the band wasn't as tight as it could have been in places.
Overall a good fun filled choon.
I haven't watched the video yet, I always prefer to listen first.

Still more good comments.

The point about tigthness of the song was exactly the same that we ourselves came across when listening to takes, and something we were secretly hoping to hear about. It seems that, at least in our case, the rocking approach is a bit of a trade-off to tigthness in that sense. Glad to hear that at least to some extent it seems to work.

More material is on the way,  and when we have something to show you will definitely be notified.

Thanks,

Brick Skatton

i love my ska...so this is right up my street!

great to have some of this on the forum

i'd maybe try to get a little more definition on the main vocal...maybe it's a little low in key for the singer? a little teak in the higher eq or a cut in the bottom end perhaps?

really enjoyed the feel and the energy of this one

cheers!

Hi Guys
Lots to like here, the tune, sound and the groove of the group all fine for me.
Just a little work of the vocals and you'll have a great fun with this live.
My head was bobbing along as i'm typing this.
