Hi All,

This is a song we've been messing about with on and off for over a year. We could never decide how or if to add guitars, so ended up with synths and bass. It's a little bit different to our usual stuff, though still with a dark tinge to it.
The subject matter is pretty straight forward - I think. Bright lights - big city, etc.

Any comments on anything - even ideas on possible guitar parts welcome.

Thanks for checking it out.

This City

Honey hides the grey walls
Oh the sweet seduction, it pulls you in
And all around you
Walk with your ball and chains behind you

Alien city blues
Sky full of silver lies, it's a pristine bruise
You walk in worn shoes
Oh this city got you too

Chorus:
All the riches and rags
All the world's regrets
In one city
All the sin and grace
All gathered in this place
This city
Paradise
It's paradise
We're told
Paradise
It's paradise
We're sold

Money fills the cradles
Caught you with temptation, it pulled you in
And now the new born
Carry the hope and blame, it binds you

Sunday evening news
Life rusts the golden prize, you're the system's muse
You lit the last fuse
Now you're a victim too.

Chorus:

Round the corner
From this place called hell
They're not drinking
From a poisoned well.

Love this, this is very Depeche Mode, can see how you are influenced by them.

Excellent production and great use of synths.

Your singer has an excellent voice....cool lyrics too.

Oh Yeah, this is right up my gloomy, dark, walls streaming with condensation street. The chorus contrasts with the gloom, like neon edges the dark..but not quite, just to a distance where it lies and waits.Watching.

Perfect backdrop for the gorgeously liquid Gothic female vocals.

This is great digger my man.

The track is private,so I can't leave a comment or a like,or more importantly, steal it for my playlist.

Hi,

This a dark track, excellent intro and the verses. The melody is good in the chorus but we would consider different kind of drum beat. The beat does not fit into my ear...
Not sure if you need any guitar part.

Good work!

Interesting piece of music. Very mature. I really like the marriage between the lyric and music.... Very well done.  Although you claim the bright lights of a city........like many cities underneath bright lights, there is a dark undertow. Overwhelmingly dark with despair; but, only if you really look / listen  8)
Interesting  ???........I'd say in a good way  ;)
Good stuff!

I really like this Digger. Like Shadowfax, I thought the verses were better but I think that was the rhythm section - it seemed a bit of a jump to me. Try it without drums to see what happens, because all the musicianship is there to really carry it off.

Anyway despite that very small nitpick, it really is excellent and the production is top notch. You´ve got a great singer there as well, with a really atmospheric voice who knows how to deliver the kind of vocal needed for this song. I love the synths and the textures. If you want guitar I would go for echoey single-line type stuff, and you could replace the single synth notes after e.g. the chorus, with electric guitar harmonics. Some power chords at the end could also fill it out with a bass guitar added for good measure.

But this is really, really good dude, I continue to like your stuff immensely.

Wow, this is great. It reminds me of "The flood" by Katie Melua, which I really love.

Perfect beat and beautiful vocals. I also want to point out that I thought the lyrics were wonderful. Poetic and subtle but clear in their meaning.

You get a big round of applause from me here!

Hi digger

Up to your usual high standards - super production and use of synths.
Sounds like it came out of an expensive studio.
Nice vocals. I guess bg's are not hip these days...would be nice here :)
I esp liked these lines:
Quote
It's paradise
We're sold

There you go raising the bar again...

hi digger this sounds like siouxsie soux singing with the pet shop boys
lets call it siouxsies shoe shop song if you like tongue twisters!  :)
its got that 'run down city overrun with synthesisers' sound the pet shops had...
fab chorus i love that synth dancing away underneath
its funny how people love unhappy lyrics ...well I think it is & theres such a big market for it
it sounds realy good aswell... you are getting some great sounding songs lately & they all sound like they fit together as part of a great album
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

Hi Digger - some lovely touches in the lyrics here - "pristine bruise" is my favourite.

It rises and falls nicely - to me it might have lost a little sparkle in the chorus so I thought maybe some guitar could give some additional texture and mood, as the synths are so smooth. Just a personal preference though, this is top quality stuff as usual.

Hi Digger, I'm really enjoying the stuff that you're coming out with. I've been listening to a lot of Depeche Mode recently. Like the arrangement of this song and the vocals are wonderfully dreamy. Great stuff as ever  :)

Hi all,

many thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.
We both agree with all the comments on the chorus missing something. This was where we were looking at adding guitars. I tried some Coldplay/U2 type stuff, but it sounded a bit cheesy to me. We're currently messing with some BVs to try and give it a lift. But you know what it's like when you've had a song lying around for ages - you just want to move on to something new - but we will try.

Pet Shop Boys is not something I'd considered - not much of a fan. Katja loves the Katie Melua comment. Depeche Mode are such a massive influence on me - there's plenty of there style and sound in this and other songs we do.

"Bruise Pristine" - was the name of a Placebo song - always stuck with me, so thought I'd reverse it and borrow it!

Many thanks again.

Digger and Katja
