Hi Guys,

This seemed too good to pass up....so I decided to throw in my entry for this illustrious competition..
I would appreciate feedback on how it works or doesn't...Thanks

Clack Their Bones    ©Wolosenko 2016
Bass and Mando - Tony DiGregorio
Vocals, Guitar, keys etc..Iggy

V1
If only I could wake the dead
I'd scream the whole night long
I would jump  and shout
Till everyone single one came out
I'd bring them all back home

V2
And I would ask them 'bout the things they did
To make this world I see
And then I'd curse them all... to live forever
In this mess they've left for me

Chorus:
And Oh the dead ...they wail and they moan
And try crawl away beneath their silent stones
And in their graves..  when they're alone
They roll around
And clack their bones

V3
If only I could wake the dead
I'd ask them how they sleep
And through their haze
Confused and dazed
They'd see this world and start to weep

V4
What ,were they thinkin'... was left for their kids
When each one grabbed his share
And where was all of their promised sacrifice
I wonder.... if they'd even care

Chorus:

V5
So now I'll try to do my share
Before my time has flown
This faith I'll keep
Till I'm asleep
and rest in peace beneath my stone

CHORUS:

Yo Igg.

I listened to the song with a big dopey grin on my face, while imagining a band of skeletons doing the voodoo shake rattle and roll dem bones!  :D

They killed the audience stone dead, maaan!

Wonderful stuff. It shambles and shuffles along there reminiscent of recent Ry Cooder material, very rootsy and alternative.

It's a grave undertaking writing a song to a specific brief, but this rib rattling effort boned it Igg.  8)

Hi Igg,

haven't been on this side of the forum for a long time and what a return. Reminds me of Tom Waits, great lyrics and a tune to match.

Big thumbs up.

Love this one Igg. Ultra sleazy late time rag time with dollops of attitude  :) Spooky organ sound is a killer  :)

Brilliant. Love the groove and the funk and the great tune. Tremendous vocals and production - yep a Tom Waits vibe to the music. Superb.

Dont I know you from FAWM? I recognise that avatar  :)
this is such a great lyric & so perfect for the bare bones challenge...i loved it!
The song is sort of psychobilly (is that what its called?) where they can only sing about dead things...& also like  tom waits... he gets a lot of mileage out of death ...i suppose it is a big subject & one everybody knows the same amount about ..so we are all experts in our ignorance!
anyway the music was fabulously right for the lyrics .. but I thought it needed a instrumental in the middle as all those verses did start to sound a bit too samey  :)
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

Hey Igg!

That was fun! And very groovy, too. I dig (haha) that bass intro and then the bassy rhythm throughout (although I fell it might just a tad too hot in the mix).

Nice buildup in the lyrics, I really did not know where this was going until the end of v2.

The chorus is a nice lift and I like the understated second vocal here, but perhaps you could try to set it apart even more by changing the instruments a little more from the verses?

Fits perfectly into the competition, of course!

Good luck, Bye Wolfi

Hi All,

Thanks so much for all the positive comments!

Skub
- Thanks for throwing me a bone on this one....Glad you enjoyed the tune!

Keith - Thanks for the Waits reference.  He is an awesome artist! and you are far too kind...

Pomp - I was going for a Ry Cooder/Leon Russel/Dr. John sound with a Randy Newman scaffolding.........Nothing like shooting for the moon....Glad you liked it...

delb0y - Thanks man!   Really glad you liked it!

Tinam - Right you are!!   I'm a FAWM refugee... Thanks for your high praise and suggestion about the instrumental...I agree...I'm still trying to figure out how to add it without making the song even longer..... Incidentally loved your stuff on FAWM ...You are fearless!!

Wolfi - Thanks for listening and for the suggestion about the chorus change up...Maybe I'll try to layer another BG vocal ....

Another fantastic/clever entry for the 'bare bones' comp igg :o
A very entertaining listen, and I loved the lyrics  :)
Your vocals are perfect for this track, and I love the bass line and the tinkling mandolin in
the background, adds a humorous touch, to a very deep subject  ;D ;D
I agree it needs something in there to break it up, without making it any longer ???
Maybe you could try speaking the 4th verse, or something :-\
Good luck in the comp  :) :)

Great stuff - love the concept and lyrics. I'd have to agree somewhat that the feel could do with a bit more variation - may be an acapella or double time section or instrumental as some have said? But that would be my only questionmark, really nice track.

Stupefyingly supertastic this...great rhythm, reminds me of the Bugsy Malone soundtrack (showing my age). The bass and drums with the mandolin on top all work together great, with very subtle, melodic backing vocals giving it a really good feel all round. I don´t get off my face these days but I´m tempted now, just to give this one a listen. I´ve shared it on Facebook anyway.

"If only I could wake the dead, I´d ask them how they sleep" - brill line

Fab stuff mate.

I don't have anything to add to what everyone else has said, but I do want to let you know how much I enjoyed this entry! I'd love to have a copy. Is it possible to get one? It should be played on the radio at Halloween!
