I wrote this about a year or so ago, I originally recorded it with a harmonica but, I took it out. It's in the key of C and I couldn't get the low tones I wanted with a C diatonic harmonica. Maybe a better harp player than me could.

Folk
written and arranged by Toney Wright
vocals and acoustic bass--Toney Wright
backing tracks (band in a box)

Sunday Morning Blue

I woke up this morning with an aching head
last night's not to clear
I light a cigarette drag myself out of bed
have a lukewarm beer

preacher man talking on the radio
speaking 'bout salvation and the fire down below
I feel so tattered and torn like a worn out shoe
Sunday morning blue

I once had a woman gentle and kind
but I had ramblin' on my mind
now I'm stuck in fast forward and I can't rewind
seems my destiny has been preassigned

I still think about her now and then
and if I stayed how my life might have been
but I can't go back and I can't redo
Sunday morning blue

an old friend stops by and we get high
pass around my guitar
but he don't stay long he's gotta move on
like a hobo in a box car

now my soul is like a window with no view
my mind's like a mystery without a clue
so it ain't nothing new when I fade into

Hi Toney,

I love your voice , so deep and cool

I am sitting in my garden drinking a Luke warm beer, maybe I should have waited till Sunday, but I am glad I didn't.

Cool lyrics, everything blends so well, your voice, guitars and violins.

Great tune

Well done

Sandeep

"I feel so tattered and torn like a worn out shoe
Sunday morning blue".

Those couple of lines sum it up for me. The gentle country vibe of the song against the backdrop of the weary lyrical theme and the growly vocals, works very well for me.

Sorry to be the one,but the forum has a 14 day limit between posting songs,Cove,I think you just broke that rule!

Ah the vocals are louder, and it makes me happy!!!

Love this one...too!

As a huge fan of Bob Dylan, I can hear him in both the song and the lyrics, but I think you wholeheartedly succeed in making it your own. Quite a feat. What can I say, this is my kind of music and this will not be the last time I'll listen to this song. Oh, and the picking has got some serious skillz too!!! ;-)

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

S

Another winner. Really like the subtle country arrangement. For me, the vocals and the backing feel like they don't quite mesh this time - I don't think it's a volume thing, I think that the backing is just several stops more "nice" than the growly vocals and there needs to be something to link them. But I may be talking rubbish. Same territory as one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite writers - Sunday Morning Coming Down. And you deserve to be in that territory  :)
