Dancing In The Street: A Rock and Roll History

Hi all
A post by GTB in the about researching the roots of rock n roll reminded me of a fantastic book I read many years ago call "Dancing In The Streets: A Rock and Roll History":
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dancing-Street-Rock-Roll-History/dp/0563369965/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1458988492&sr=8-9&keywords=dancing+in+the+street+book
I never managed to watch the BBC2 series it was meant to accompany as the VHS box set had been discontinued and it was not available on DVD
GTB's post inspired me to have another go at tracking it down and with today's t'internet I was able to find a YouTube playlist of the entire series!!!
I haven't watched it yet but I thought I would post the link here for others and if anyone wants to discuss it we can use this thread
https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGLnbaJ23Qu5Hm2Ys-DHqY_0qOm6vm8dJ
Enjoy!

Looks fantastic, thanks for sharing that.
I remember a radio series from the 80s called 25 Years of Rock which was my first intro to the decades before. I'll see if I can track that down (unless someone knows off the top of their head).
Cheers!

Seems 25 Years of Rock was updated to 30 and was repeated in Radio 6 last year but isn't available on iplayer for now.

Cheers Adam, I'll look that up next. All this stuff really helps get things into context over a number of years.
Boydie, I watching all of that series yesterday and it brought a tear to my eye in a couple of places. What a fascinating history we have, all with an incredible soundtrack too!
I also found this

Focusing just on guitarists but very interesting and relevant too. Mind you it doesn't say much about Robert Johnson ...

Something similar is Tony Palmer's All You Need Is Love. Highlights include Bo Diddley explaining how he got a record deal at Chess, Hendrix playing at Blackpool and Phil Spector singing You Lost That Loving Feeling.
Covers nearly a century of popular music.

And here's another one which interested me at the time because I was just discovering some of the great Rhythm & Blues of the late 40s-early 50s.
'The Sound Of The City - the rise of rock and roll' by Charlie Gillett
