hello

i wrote this over breakfast today...another one that's not had much time spent on it...more of a gut-reaction, really. i'm knocking them out at quite a rate at the minute...so i'm just going along for the ride

it's never my intention to offend...i'm just a little cheeky sometimes

One born again every minute

Pull up a pew
It could be you
You've got to be in it to win it
You may have lost interest
The first time around
But there's one born again every minute

Let's suppose there's a dozen religions
And just suppose one of them's right
All of the others are kidding themselves
With all their celestial might

What becomes of the unbelievers?
The overwhelming majority on earth
Do they suffer eternal damnation
For what they've been spoon-fed from birth?

Don't we all hope for something that's better?
Do we all have to wait 'til the end?
I can't understand an unshakeable faith
In such an implausible friend

amen

Hi Paul

Well you're going straight to hell now - do not pass GO, do not collect $200!
Sorry that's a Monopoly reference :)

I like this - needs a chorus though - one sugg if you're open to them:

Quote
And suppose only one of them's right

and the last line do you mean:

Quote
Is such an implausible friend

good work - wish I could write that well that fast :)
Paul

hello Paul

thanks  :)

i was trying to imply that it's unlikely that any of them are right

the last line is about the faith they seem to have in their "friend"

there seems to be a drive towards a more personal relationship nowadays...i remember a guy saying he was trying to arrange an interview with Tony Blair and he was told that sunday morning was out because he "would be talking with my God"  ::)

It occurs to me a novel approach might be to say "And just suppose all of them are right" (and the differences are man-made).

I can say the first two songs I ever wrote (many years ago) were done pretty fast like that. I can also say they are not likely to be posted in these forums any time soon. ;)

I have one possible suggestion. For the line, "The overwhelming majority on earth", which seems to break the established rhythm pattern...maybe "Which is most of the people on earth"?

Good points, Vicki

Interesting turn-around on them all being right...what a celestial kerfuffle that would cause :)

And yes, you're right of course...that line doesn't quite fit...although I sometimes like to do that and play with the vocal a little bit.

Hope you don't mind me rambling...

I read an article that listed World Religions by Percentage...

Christians 33%
Muslims 21%
Hindus 13%
Non religious 12%
Other religions 12%
Buddhists 6%
Atheists 2%
Sikhs 0.35%
Jews 0.25%
Baha's 0.12%

I figured the worst case scenario for the biggest section of the worlds population (come judgement day) would be if the smallest group with the most hard-line approach to non-believers won out.

At best, 33% may hit the jackpot...but even that means 67% are in trouble...and then, with the winners, you have Catholics (17%) and Protestants (6%) etc

It's fascinating...and a bit of a mess.

Some atheists try harder than others.  "o)

Sometimes, those who try TOO hard can tend to act like their non-belief is a religion.  Like religionists, each individual atheist has a unique set of beliefs and behaviors.

Hi Paul:   There is a fascinating undercurrent to the "born again" concept.  When Jesus said you must be "born again (as a little child)" it was a call to relinquish religiously taught beliefs (which after all were learned from humans) and to "empty the mind" of thoughts that came from man to make room for deeper communications from God him/her/itself.

Of course, NOW, it has come to mean a blind acceptance of religious doctrine.  But that VERY CLEARLY was not what Jesus was saying.

Loved the lyric btw.   And I like the mental picture of the havoc that would be "Heaven" if all these different groups were equally right (or equally wrong) and all let into heaven to argue their cases.
